2006 Hummer H3 motor mount & tie rod replacement
It's been a long time since I logged on, searched high and low for info on this job with little success. Figured it's time to give back to the community.
Been dealing with a rattle/shake and assumed it was time for a TB clean again. Upon inspection of the motor mount I could see that the passenger side was cracked. I got both off amazon for $90.
Also dealing with lose steering and figured it was time to change the outer tie rods, as the inner were changed when I bought the H3 used. (previous owner never got an alignment by evidence of the worn passenger front tire.) Thats when I learned 06 utilized a 14mm set up and the outer tie rods are no longer available. Nice that the 07-08 18mm is a perfect replacement. Got those from ebay for $90. The plan is to trade up to a 2010 (with lockers) so the quality of the parts is not an issue at this time. I will say that the China made stuff is "equal to OEM quality" However I would spend the money on the beefiest stuff if possible cause the OEM parts are designed to fail.
Job is a 6-10 on difficulty and a universal socket will save the day when it comes to removing the motor mounts.
I put in some pictures from the job. Took me all day but then I have a 3 year old running around the whole time so in reality it should take about half a day with the "learning curve" as the biggest factor.
