I have been searching around for a while for a winch but still don't know who's reliable. I have about $500 to spend and am looking for a 10000-12000lb winch that I can mount in a cradle and put in my 2in reciever. I have heard warn is a good brand but they are WAY to expensive, so I'm looking at brands like traveler, super winch, and smittybuilt. Which of these would have a size winch that I need for my price or a little over. Which is the most reliable? Thanks!

 

I have a 12000# BadLand winch from Harbor Freight. I read a bunch before buying it. It has great reviews. I have had no trouble with it and have used it many times pulling Jeeps and trucks stuck really good in the mud. I have not used it for self recover yet. Those times I've been stuck I had to got out backwards and it was easier to use a rope or someone else's winch and yes Jeeps have pulled me out. Anyway I bought the cradle Harbor sells and pulled it apart don't buy it. I bought a kit I welded up from eBay and it is solid. Fits in the front receiver or rear. I mounted quick dissconnets on the front of the deuce and the winch. I bought a long set of jump cables and put the same quick discos on the jumper cables so I can move it to rear if I had too. I can also use the jumper cables as normal jumper cables or I can plug them in the quick disco on front and jump other vehicles with out lifting hood or get a jump. I will be buying sythetic rope just because the wire rope is difficult to work with sometimes.
