Default What gears?

Hey guys i'm going to be putting a locker up front and i want to change my gearing while i'm at it. My question is how low should i go? My hummer is a winter DD and hopefully be able to take it on the trails at least once a year (just starting to get into off roading). I have a 20in wheel thats wrapped with a 275/65 rubber. So should i go with a 4.56 or 4.88? Thanks!

Considering 275/65-20 is smaller than the stock 315/70-17 and considering you said it is a DD....

I'd stay stock.

I have 4.88's for my 41's.... That is a little high still for my taste... I think it would be perfect for 38.5s..... I'll probably go somewhere in the 5's next time...

caraddict, if you dont mind me asking; what gears are in it stock? 4.55s? I figured 4.88s would be standard with something like this.

time to look at gearing stuff for my list when i get my h2. haha I was planning to run 6" of lift and 38s with the stock gears, then use low range 4x4 if wheeling or something instead of just regular 4x4. back to the drawing board.

20" wheels have nothing to do with anything....

The rubber wrapped around the wheels is the difference....

You can have 30" wheels on it and still pretty much have a stock size tire height...

i cant believe 4.10s are stock with 35s

4.55s usually with 38s for most apps
4.88s with 40-41s
5.10s with 44s

general figures with daily driving? Pulling heavily or something go up to the next gear set or go to the next step up for all of them in general?

Sorry about getting into this a bit on you brick, im curious to find out though since these gear setups are different than the 1500 trucks that i usually look at. they start out running 265s or 285s which are still pretty small.

thanks for the info,
steve

Because SUV's are not trucks.... they are sport utility vehicles.... SUV's by definition is S.U.V. - a high-performance four-wheel drive car built on a truck chassis

What does a Jeep Cherokee have stock?
