it is under warranty its just a huge hassle to drive to the dealership its about an hour and 20 minutes away and i dont wanna get there and find out that its something retarded and a huge waste of my time

 

The local autopart stores around here (at least the major chains) have a code reader they plug in and read for no charge. Might be worth a trip to the local parts store or at least a phone call tosee if they do.

It sounds like your way past this point already but hereitgo's....
My check egine light came on a while back. I looked on here and iI found the gas cap thing. I checked the fit and it clicked while tightning like always. well the CE light never went off so I looked at it closer and the dang thing was craked and the moreI messed with it the worse it got. I got a new locking cap buttheCE light never went out soI had my budddy hook up his code reader and it still showed the code for the cap. He cleared it and it and then it never came on again.

 

I also had this same issue. Make sure there's no cracks in the cap and ensure the cap holder is not getting in the way when you close it. The light normally takes 10 cycles to reset (the CPU that is) or you can disconnect the battery for a few mins and reconnect it. I have a code reader and just reset it when it comes on, (after I re-tighten the cap) and it doesn't come back on. Advance Auto, Autozone, or any of these type places have readers that can pull the code and clear it. If they clear it and the light comes back on you could have EVAP issues. EVAP is the charcoal filter canister that the gas tank fumes flow trough so they don't go into the atmosphere.[/align]

 

You guys are the BEST! I had my engine light coming on... had a appointment at the dealer friday... diagnostics charge 65.00. After reading here I went to autozone and "They put a code reader on it" Said bad gas cap... They even had a replacement! 6.99 !! Woo- Hoo

 

Have you change gas lately if you have thats the issue .

 

MY CEL came on not too long ago too, when I hit 60k miles. My cap was secure, so I ended up taking it to the dealer. They ended up replacing the evap cylanoid, dropping the gas tank, and replacing that sensor too. I recently bought an extended warrenty that covered everything so it didnt cost me nothing but gas.

Odd, this is yet another Evap issue with the H2.

 

My check engine light came on Tuesday. I checked the gas cap and it was fine. So I took it to my Hummer dealer and it was an evap. solenoid on the gas tank... it was stuck in the open position. An easy fix.
