Default Removing steering lock from H2 for towing...

Has anyone done this to make it simpler to flat tow? I am not so concerned about the value of the locking steering as an anti-theft device as the person that would be breaking the window to steal it would already have a plan (might add 7 seconds to his time yto drive off). Would like to find good instructions on removing airbag/steering wheel/lock mechanism.

Anyone done this already to theirs?

I'm not sure about your question, but I flat tow mine and I turn the key to accy which unlocks the steering wheel when towing. I also disconnect the neg batt wire. Are you saying you tow with the steering wheel locked?

Default Locking steering

I would like to flat tow without having to put in Accy and disconnect the battery. The usefulness of the locking steering as a theft deterrent is little if any, and it is just one more thing to mess with for towing. As it turns out, the best I can tell my 2005 does not have locking steering. I asked my local dealer and he said at some point they stopped putting it on but he thought the 2003's had it.

So new question, anyone know when or if they in fact stopped the locking steering on H2's?

He said because it is considered commercial it was not required as the laws changed.

my 2004 has it. Can't you just set the ignition key to the OFF position and then try to turn the steering wheel to tell if you have steering lock?
Or am I missing something

I have done that and it does not lock. Just not sure if it has been removed, was never there, or just did not grab that time ( my fear). Good info to know 2004 had locking column, anyone have a 2005 with locking wheel?

My 2004 doesn't lock, maybe mine was removed or maybe it was an option IDK.

So we have an 2004 with it and a 2004 without. I doubt it was an option so I am guessing the law changed during the 2004 run?

iirc there was a TSB put out for early model H2s that steering wheel did not lock. think it was also part of the same TSB for the shifting lever not locking when in park.

for my 03 H2, my steering wheel does not lock nor does the shifting lever lock. i can move it in and out of park without pressing the brake.
