I'm looking to install a remote start for my 2006 H2, since it's incredibly hot here in the summer it would be nice to cool down the H2 before the kids and I get in!

Have you installed and after market one or factory one? What would you suggest???

 

I have the Viper 5901 in mine. Its an alarm and remote start. But wait! Theres more!

The reason I got alarm AND remote start is the remote start units are famous for causing problems with the factory alarm system. Just because it hasnt happened to you yet, doesnt mean it wont...

I dont want to remote start my vehicle only to find out that its locked me out and I wait for a locksmith/tow truck/whatever to come while it idles out of fuel

Also the factory alarm stinks

 

Thanks again Gleamor! I would definitely hate to be locked out especially with three children in the heat! I thought Onstar could unlock the doors in a lockout situation?

We are talking about going to Best Buy for the Remote Start, is this a good decision?

 

Hi, we have auto start and alarm from VIPER, it works great, the H2 will run for 15 mins Max and cool down the truck, when you get its nice and cold or Warm in the winter......

I start ours from about 900 feet out,while im walking out the gate at work, its usualy 95 degs here in Fort Laurdale and 120 Degs inside the truck.......

We also have Vent shades witch allows you to keep your window down 1/2 inch to vent the Hot air out of the truck, when parked

When i get in the truck its 73 degs and dropping.............COOL.........

 

How much did the starter cost and what was the install price. I have startted to look here in Edmonton but I'm looking at least $600.00 for a basic starter with installation. Not sure what a good starter and alarm would cost

 

Best Buy is one place, you will likely get a better deal from the smaller shops though. Probably get a better installation too. I am not fond of the installs i've seen come out of Best Buy...but i'm pretty picky

Oh forgive me in advance...OnStar...roflmao! They couldn't unlock a paper bag. I tried them not once but twice when my wife borrowed my truck and somehow locked the keys in it. I've still not figured out how it was an epic fail. I've since actually cancelled my account and removed the OnStar module and dash plate and replaced that with an RCI-2950DX CB/10meter radio. I've never missed it...

Its not my place to tell you what to do with your Hummer or money, but you would be doing yourself a favor if you stuck with a remote start / alarm combination.

Viper 5901 is what I have installed and its been flawless. Its actually being upgraded next week to the newest Viper SmartStart system. I can start, lock, unlock, etc from my android phone (works with iPhone and Blackberry too) and more.
My 5901 cost me $425 installed. The new SmartStart i'm having done Wednesday is $349 installed

We had our (Viper System) installed by Tint World, costs $700.00 took a day and a Half for them to do it. costs $500.00 for our H3.......

Tint world was reffered by other H2 Owners on Angies List...............

They did an exellent job, havent had any problems, going on 3 years now...........

I went to best buy 1st, but they could not give me a price (Install) becuase they hadent done a Hummer before.....Not for me!!!!
