Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default Hubs...

Hello, I'm new here, my husband bought our 2006 H2 a year and a half ago, but somehow it became my primary vehicle

On to my question, I took our 2006 H2 in for oil change and tire alignment, they said they could not do the alignment because the hubs need to be replaced... (I need new tires as well)...The dealership quoted approximately $800 for the front hubs and $800 for the rear, so $1600 total. Does this sound about right? Is it a common problem with the H2's? Should I have it fixed at the dealership (or a different dealership) or have another mechanic fix it for less???

Thank you all in advance for your responses!

I have had to replace my "front wheel bearing assembly" twice now as they only last for about 80k miles it seems (just now hitting 160k miles on my 03 H2). I am getting ready to do the rear this month.

I can tell you that I bought my parts online the first time, was good quality and cost me $300 for the fronts. Cost of labor to install including alignment was right at $200 for a total of $500 approx for the front. Rear is much easier, and parts are only about $200 for the pair of rears.

Might want to look into finding a mechanic who works on 4x4 vehicles as a specialty. Or if your in the US just find a mechanic near the nearest military post where you see lots of military people take their vehicles for repair. Chances are that the mechanics are former soldiers who worked on the military hummvee's and are quite happy to take care of your H2

As a side note, the reason I strongly encourage people to take their H2's to 4x4 specialty type mechanics is that there are some key parts that do wear and get weak on H2's...even on mall crawler versions...things like the Pitman arm, the ball joints, and the control arm bushings.

Great, thank you for your reply. I'll tell my husband about finding a mechanic near the base, he is in the reserves so maybe he can network a little and find someone!

Thats the ticket, just get someone who has or does work in the motorpool and you should be good to go.

Good luck
