Hey guys, well I'm going to be purchasing an H2 this month and I was wondering a few things. Don't get me wrong I am very good with cars and I have driven almost every car out there. What should I watch out for when buying a 03-06 H2? If any of you guys have one maybe you could share your experience.

Flooded interior; rust.

 

Personally, I would avoid Adventure package models... they only offer airride rear suspension over the Base and Lux models.... and repairs to that system can be costly.

I would make sure the model you purchase has already been updated with the 2006 mirrors.

expecially in 2003 and 2004 listen very carefully for the exhaust leak at the manifolds. If you look under the hood look at the bolts to see if any are popped off.

Check for the passenger side front axle leak on earlier models.

Check for centerlink, idler, tierod, and pitman slop. These are big trucks, but don't drive like it. The steering is very responsive... if yours has play... or you find yourself sawing the wheel to stay straight... you have a repair waiting in the wings.

None of these things are deal breakers to even a shadetree mechanic... but might get you a better deal.

 

I agree with muddy on the exhaust manifold gaskets...check the bolts..sometimes an exhaust manifold fix can turn into pulling the heads!

 

I had to weld nuts to the broken off studs when I put headers on mine... I kinda got lucky...

 

I work at a dealership & can't tell you how many times I've seen the heads pulled off c 2500 trucks... Not to say that I haven't seen some saved..You did get lucky!

 

worst part was melting the manifold with my torch without hurting the collector because the studs just spun in the manifold and the threads spun out of the nuts... but wouldn't come off.

 

rust would be a big deal... check under the truck if you live up north.

 

I wouldn't buy one that has been modded with off road equipment. Most likey it will have been well used off road. I have had an 03 and now have an 06 and I cant tell any difference between the two. In fact there are a few features the 03 had that the 06 dosen't.
