Default Duramax H2 Birth

Its funny how we all no they are out there yet no one will talk about how they are built, come along for a journey with us at DuraBurb and we will take you down the rabbit hole of the Duramax Diesel H2 SUT/SUV

First up Our donor for this project is a 48K mi 07 LBZ

Slammed hard in the front, nothing was salvageable but the running gear is perfect, as a point of reference, this donor cost 10500.00 at IAAI dealer auction, donors for these builds don't come cheap

I bought some brembo brakes from a guy in arizona that had done a few of these conversions...said there is nothing to them. I still have the emails w/ his number, if you want to chat w/ him, PM me. He said the secret is keep everything factory, dont try and run electric fans, etc... the traction control will even work w/ the duramax.

Hmmm not quite, as for Stabilatrac for GMT800 platform trucks 2003-2006, there are a few of us working on cracking that nut but haven't quite got it yet, the Duramax refuses to acknowledge the reduce power command from the EBCM. The H2 is our single most intensive build, the 2nd is the GMT900 Tahoe.

On to running gear
Modification to the frame for conventional 4x4
upon close look the front frame portion is generic GM 2500 2WD, slightly modified for this full time setup so we will go the conventional 4x4 frame mod route since we have the jig and all the hardware to do it and so it will be serviceable in the future with conventional parts.

Well we are off and running with the conventional approach, all our SUV's are set up as OEM as possible, since GM never offered this option (I would assume they would have kept the "H2" type front diff and made it into a unlock-able type if they had) we will opt to run with what is radially available in the market place.

No one that dose this will say how or what they do so here is our approach,

Same as we do for 2WD to 4X4, first we remove the posts on the driver side as Brandon is doing here, then we weld and bolt the 4X4 lower cross member, we add the mounts for the RT carrier support next and then last we install the standard upper carrier support

WA-LA!!
The finished product looks like it came from GM and is fully serviceable with conventional 2500 Silverado fare

This looks GREAT! Can't wait for the whole step by step process. I have a 2005 H2 SUT and a 2006 H3. I've been waiting to see something like this for a while. If it works out I want to do this to both my hummers. Is it possible for an H3?

This is awesome--thank you very much for posting this build. You guys make this look really simple, the front skid plate wasn't even removed---same for the spare tire. But I know there's a lot of work that goes into doing a build like this.
Please keep posting pics and updates---there's many of us out here driving deuces that would love to have the Dura-Max swap, me because I'm pulling a 6500 pound travel trailer and the extra torque would be right on time.
I'm very curious to see how you pull off making gauges and the 2wd button work. The conversions I've seen have left a bit to desire for making it look like it came from the factory that way.
Once again, thank you and keep posting!
BTW--where is your shop located?
