H1 Parking Brake

H1 Parking Brake
Folks,
I found a 2003 H1 that I'm interested in buying. On the test drive I couldn't set the parking brake. It had a lot of resistance to pulling the lever up. I figured either there was a trick I was missing or something was wrong. I have no idea how the knurled **** is used, if it matters.
Sorry for being such a noob, but I'd really like to join this unique group. A search didn't find an answer.
How does the parking brake work? What should I ask for prior to purchase?
Thanks to all.

The top of the parking brake turns to adjust the tension. Turn counterclockwise just enough until the brake can be applied. It is still requires a fairly firm pull even when properly adjusted. Good luck in your search!

Thanks for the info. That worked.
Drove it home today. The injection pump looks nice and new. The PMD is right on the side. I suspect the prior owner ate that "fix" for a hot PMD.
That's one of the first upgrades, a "cooler" PMD.
And locking fuel doors since I live in a neighborhood where Prius is king.
