I think it is mainly I SAY AGAIN MAINLY  a Left Coast errrr West coast thing. They are the ones passing all the INSANE laws, they are the Liberated Democrats, TAX the Rich (workers) & give it to the POOR (lazy non-workers). They are the ones who want to Tax the AIR you breath, They are the ones who block us from smoking a decent Cohiba (Or whatever) out in the open air--They are the ones who want or have taxed everything that breaths into bankruptcy. They especially like to tax GAS, Cigarettes, Cigars, Liquor, AND if they could, they would Tax, marijuana, Cocaince, morphin AND any other drug they could--Yea, I love the Left coast alrite, nice place to visit (for a VEEERRYY short visit)--Would NOT EVER wanna live there however--Can't afford them--  Plus tree Huggers & I just don't seem to see eye-to-eye-

YH2, though I agree to some extent with you .. you have NO idea how good you have it in the US .. even living out there on the west coast.  You should try growing up in a socialistic/communisitic country like I did and we'll start talking about being born free and taxed to death ....  Try a TOTAL tax preasure of up in the 70 percentile ... what you describe about parts of the US ... it's a wet dream in comparison to what I got used to when I lived over there.  Everything is relative my friend ... and quite frankly you could have it A LOT worse!
 
And on that note I think I am resigning my resident cynic/government bashing crown to YH2 :-)  You're worse than me ... LOL!

y'all can go pi$$ up a rope with all that left coast crap.  our governator is the reason you drive a hummer, so you should bow to his thoughtfulness.  as for taxing the air and crap like that, it's a measly $25 fine for smoking while standing still in Davis, and it pisses the cops off to no end when you force them to arrest you for it.  no jail time, no record (as long as you're polite while being arrested) and the cops have all that paperwork to fill out.  i've lived in other countries, on both coasts, and i prefer the "left" coast to any other part of the country.  i have more liberties here than most other states, even with the no smoking laws.  i can buttf#$%  my neighbor legally if i want, how many other states allow that kind of freedom of expression? (i can see the homophobes among us hurling now). 
 
back to the subject, i've been flipped off once, by 2 highschoolers in an import.  they almost drove in a ditch when i jerked the wheel in their direction.  the trick is to show them that you're not bothered by it, that will piss them off more than anything.  i'd like to wave back and toss them a big smile, but nobody flips me off (at least, no strangers do).

i think the real fun is in having a prius and a hummer.  because then both sides of the wild & wacky automobile wars hate you,a nd if you're going to be hated, you might as well go all the way.
 
i've been flipped off a gazillion times, but i enjoy it.  its interesting that a truck can generate so much emotion, and that people can be such sheep.  I make the latter comment because, at the end of the day, the H2's mileage is the same, better than, or only a bit worse than literally millions of vehicles on the road. Nobody cries about ancient vehicles without, or with long-dead, catalytic converters.  Nobody pouts at huge pickups or sports cars or big luxury cars.  But they line up around the block to jump on the hummer bandwagon.  My hummer and my pickup get the same mileage, basically.  They sell 20-some thousand H2s every year, and perhaps 5 or 10 million pickups.
 
And hummers are big and dangerous to other drivers.  Yet interestingly, my pickup and my H2 have similar dimensiosn and curb weights.  20,000 H2s, 20,000,000 pickups. 
 
So sheep fits, because when it alls distills at the days end, the H2s presence on this planet is inconsequential.  I understand the "its the principle of the matter" argument, but they go too far.
 
And as for the vandalism and all, any group or person who justifies crime on moral grounds is a dolt.
