Hey everyone. I am going to buy new tires for my H3. I am really looking at Mickey Thompson MTZ size 35's. I'm just wondering if they are good for all the differnt weather we have here in Jersey. Snow, rain, sleet, hail and so on. Any info or opions, or if I should look at a different tire would really help. Thanks....

I have the 35" Baja MTZ's on my H2 and I've been very pleased with them ... one thing you should be aware of though, they are louder than the stock tires ... should be a rather obvious thing considering the threads :-) As far as how they handle weather .. haven't had any hydroplaning issues with them in the rain, no real problem in sleet either. I took my H2 through 1.5-2 feet of snow this past winter and had no real issues either ... got stuck once when it got real deep but nothing a little common sense didn't fix!

When I went to order some M/T's recently, the salesman tried to steer me from them and back to an A/T tire. He said that they were horrible for street driving in rain/snow. His exact quote was "the first time you're on a wet road.....you're going sideways." I'm going to have the truck both on & off-road, so what's the best choice while still having a rather aggressive tread pattern?

In Jersey..?? I'd recommend the ones that hold up from spike strips...
I'm running BFG MT's.. No wet road problems...

mickey thompson mtz's, parnelli jones dirt grips are both very quiet and have amazing on road handling. I wouldn't piss on a set of bf goodbitches if they were on fire, no offense crash...I have them on my dodge and can't wait to throw them away. Noisy as hell and suck in rain/snow. Nitto makes a good tire too but very pricey, same goes for procomp. Any of the interco boggers will wear fairly fast and will be slightly noisey but are amazing in snow and mud. The interco super swamper ssr's and the truxis mt are the best all around tire than interco makes...imo

Not sure what your sales person was smoking at the time but I'm guessing it wasn't a Marlboro. It sounds he has no first hand experience at all with these tires or they were mounted on a 2WD truck and driven on ice .. those statements simply aren't true!
I will however say I don't agree with Impy in them being very quiet but that's me. I think they sing a little bit more than stock at highway speeds, well, quite a bit actually. This of course being just my own perception so ... but nothing the stereo won't be able to "fix" for you :-)

I got the MTZ'S and love them. Up north here we can go from snow to rain in 10 minutes and have yet to slide sideways.

Maybe the siping on the tread has something to do with it? I've seen muds with and without them. He must have thought all muds didn't have them. My H3 is in route to the dealer right now, so I want to find something soon and get those P-tires off when I pick it up! ! !

Regardless of his reasons he has no business potentially leading a customer down the wrong road just because he's clueless .. If you are going to speak for/against a product .. at least have SOME grounds to stand on ...
As far as getting the MTZ's I think it was Impy that hooked me up with a tire place up north (northern ohio) ... I paid $848 shipped 2 day for a set of 35's ... excellent customer service too!

If there's an interest in these I got mine from Jordan Tire and you can reach them at 1-866-492-1511 ... came highly recommended from Impy and I'll have to agree with him .. I'll be going back here for all my tire needs from here on. Excellent customer service, great people to deal with, fast shippin, and of course the ever so important pricing ... couldn't find em any cheaper anywhere else ...
Note, she did tell me they were going up in price when I bought mine. If anyone gets a set I'd be real interested in seeing what they run now .. mine were $175 a piece I believe ...

Zyne, tire pressure and width of rim will have alot to do with overall tire noise. My mtz's are as quiet as the stock goodyears were, I hear no humm at all...no BS. I also have wider than stock rims and keep my pressure at or above the max rated pressure,if I drop the pressure some then the tire makes more of a footprint and will make them a little louder.

Toyo Open Country MT.
Very quiet for an MT, great on-road handling, and they wear nicely. They're siped so they're good on wet roads/snow/ice. And they're excellent offroad.

Impy, yep, agreed ... valid points! My initial thought was they were slightly louder than stock .. however I personally don't see it as much of an issue. The singing or drone they give off is actually rather soothing :-)

I'm no longer allowed to get a card, just cause I got 6 35's and a $2700 cap for my dually last year when I was only supposed to be getting a bedliner. That place had real persuasive salesmen!!

LMAO! I know how that goes .. I had that very problem at Ritz Camera a while ago .. went in for a tripod and walked out with two filters, a $1,600 dollar macro lens, and a battery grip .. oddly enough I ended up having to order the tripod online because they didn't have what Iwent there for .. must admit I don't regret it but I'm still regrowing a$$ meat .. LOL!

LOL Impy ... I've been to Atlantic City and I AM glad I'm not closer to it ... .our 3 close Casino's in Indiana are enough ... and $500!?? It was a little bit closer to 2 grand LOL! I'm still up for the year, I'm still up from last year, and I sure as hell am up from the year before! Besides, poker $$ comes from poker winnings, not from paychecks .. I guess she see winnings as a paycheck too (she is a black jack player by the way) since that's how she treats it .. I usually put half of it aside to stake myself with at a later date .. she pockets everything as she gets it.
How long have you been playing Imp? I started seriously when we bought our house back in late -05. I couldn't cover the closing costs and needed so much $ since it was our first house. We went from an 1,800 sqf apartment to 4,400+ sqf house, it was echoing ... Went down to the boats with $400 out of my paycheck and some hope .. played for 6 hours and lost $10 bucks ... went back the next day with $200, walked out with somewhere around 1,300-1,400 ... Kept on doing that every Friday, Saturday, and Monday evening and made about 14 grand in the remaining 3 months of that year .. covered closing, got a butt load of new furniture and stuff .. plus paid for the move :-) After that I've been hooked .. and fortunately gotten a lot better ... I'm probably down to maybe 4-5 times/month now, clearing approx what I make at work from the Casino's .. add on the home games/tourney's and playing online ... I'm enjoying myself :-)
Trumps wigs!? Should I keep an eye open for ya next time I'm at the Taj!? :-) Umm and for the record .. if you end up paying HIM, you're doing something wrong ... hehehhee .. I need to get me a $500 dollar buy-in tournament going for you Impy, hehehehehehehee
