Took one for the team today and washed the H3 in 40 deg. F weather - not because it really needed it and not because I'm totally nuts.  I wanted to test my new water filter to see if it does, indeed, filter all the minerals and dirt out of the water and eliminate those dasterdly water spots we Black Paint car owners despise more than almost anything. We have both a black Corvette and now a black H3 so it's important to have pure water to rinse with during washes.

Here in southern Indiana, not only do we have some of the hardest water I've ever experienced (softener took care of that) but some pretty nasty dirt and scale along with it as well.  I ordered a high-flow 5-micron in-line filter from AutoGeek, attached quick disconnects to it and went at it this afternoon.

Previously, I was always left with nasty water spots that forced me to re-wipe the car a couple of times after drying to eliminate the water spots.  I purposely did a sloppy job drying today to see if the filter was working.  Sure enough, the car dried virtually spot free - truly a huge time saver and a very satisfying relief.  It took me less than half the time I usually need to get a nice, spot-free gleam.

I'm now considering a whole-house filtering system to eliminate the minerals, etc. from the entire system once and for all.  I wanted to try this on a small scale with the car before moving to that step.  The filter canister and two sediment filter cartidges I ordered are pretty generic and can probably be found cheaper elsewhere.  Here's a pic of the setup I put together.  I added some quick disconnects I had laying around to make it a snap to hook up to the hose.

Pekoe Rose

Minnie Pearl

Several people have mistaken them for piglets when first seeing this picture.  My wife and I are baffled how this could happen.  We had the picture framed (framer mistook them for piglets first) and namrd it, appropriately, "Piglets on a Couch".

Look at that - I've hijacked my own thread and turned it into a Chi-fest!

Gorgeous pups, HummBob!  And you are obviously one of the smart ones - all smoothcoats!  Great pics and Mrs. Patches and I were amazed by the pic of Widgett.

Minnie Pearl is a show circuit champion like her daddy before her.

I'm pretty much convinced - I just need to research which system I want to install.

I have used the Mr. Clean system as well but it generally takes me longer to wash the car and I'm not enamored with the price and short life of the filters.  Also, it's very large and a bit clumsy.  The filter I bought lasts a long time and sits on the ground.  Did an awesome job filtering the water as well.
