Or new and one of a kind.    In 1966 that was the car of the future, fold up head lights, FWD, Big Block power.  Balls fellas and .......eh hem, girls.

Let me share a little something with you nonbelievers........from the 1966 Press releases and manual:

The line of demarcation is drawn. Men on one side. Boys on the other. Cars fall into place. No question which side the Toronado takes. Not with that brawny, broad shouldered look. And that responsive performance from a 455 cubic inch Rocket V-8, biggest ever built. And that masterful ride and handling, thanks to the superior traction of FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE and torsion-bar suspension. Like we say, Toronado is all man-right down to that man sized trunk.
The front-wheel-drive youngmobile from Oldsmobile. To quote from the inside cover of the 1966 Toronado Owners manual:

"As the owner of a TORONADO by Oldsmobile, you now drive a distinctive car with appearance features and performance benefits unlike anything on the road today. Never has there been a car with so many distinguising characteristics."

Another tid bit:  Bobby Unser, who won the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in a 1966 Toro, also performed all the test driving during R & D.

My dad had several Toros, great cars, sucked down the gas like an H2 when that Big Block FWD was new and not quite polished as it is now.  Great car in the snow back in the day.  I drove a brand new 1976 from Metro Detroit to north of Denver nonstop, well except for pit stops for coffee, food and gas.  Was stylin, it had a power sun roof, power seats and windows, premium stereo with built in CB, Black w/ tan leather interior!!!  Like riding a couch.

If I learned anything from Oldsmobile, back in the day, it is this: If you are gonna go, GO BIG!

We may now return to our usual Hummer Forum programming.

Thanks rhill.

The rest of you kids, time to go back to your room, play time is over.

No problem Doc, my barber actually has one that he is restoring right now. Said when the weather gets warmer he will drive it in. I'll try to remember a pic of it for you.
