Okay, so I was looking for forest trails around Silverthorne, CO and found out most were closed since it's mud season. I found a little side trail that led pretty much to nowhere. Quickly, I came to the end and had to back up. There was a spur to the right that I took after I backed up. Suddenly, wham! I was over this stump that you see in the pics.
So, what next? I've got a vibration in the drivetrain. I don't know if I bent the driveshaft or knocked other pieces out of whack. I already rebalanced the one wheel after I tore off the weight when I backed up. I'm heading to a Chevy dealer Friday morning for help, hoping they can do stuff. The next closest dealer to me here in Grand Junction, CO is about 300 miles away.
If you look in the 2nd post you'll see some of the stump embedded in the frame's crossmember.

Ouch!!! I'd say that your front drive shaft Is bent by the looks of that Pic, and the TC shield Is right up against your TC as well, hope It Isn't damaged also from that Stump!!! Luckily you Transmission pan didn't get reshaped...
I'd STRONGLY recommend to anyone who Is going to take his or her rig Off-Roading to Remove your Step Sides for one, and Invest on a Under Body Protection... For a couple of hundred bucks... It'll save you from a Major Headache down the road, and a Expensive repair Bill!!!

How'd you grind wood into that side of the frame while backing up..???

I got the wood into the frame while going forward--the wheel went over the stump and then the truck just plopped on top of the stump. Don't worry, HumrLuvr, I'll be taking off the steps when I really hit the trails. I wasn't worried about it when taking the easy forest trails. The undercarriage protection? Uh yeah, that's next on my list.

It's possible if you hit the stump hard enough you just screwed up a tire or something.. Busted a belt or something.. I think the Goodyears aren't really even LT tires, just Passenger..

Status update: took it to a Chevy dealer here in town (no Hummer dealer for 240 miles) and he diagnosed a bent front drive shaft. I found one in Denver (yes, 240 miles) and picked it up this afternoon. The Chevy dealer is going to put it in tomorrow--the part is $331. Just so y'all know--get the undercarriage protection that I don't have with the bills I had to deal with here. I'll update this thread with final results once I have them.

Good lesson learned, don't go down trails before you have a chance to check them out of foot first.

Glad it was that simple.. Better than having jammed up the T-case right..?? You get the UCP???

The UC protection is $331 or was that the drive shaft?

Front drive shaft was $331 and it fixed my issues. I put about 150 highway miles on it after the repair, and 35 miles offroad in Moab and Canyonlands. It was less than an hour for the dealership to put on. No more nasty vibrations!
UCP is on the list of to-do items.
