Hello all. I previously owned a 2003 h2 and when I had finally purchased it the world felt complete. Unfortunatly it was cursed from the start and my dealership showed little interest in making it right. So I sold it in may and got a 2007 dodge charger daytona.

So, here we are, almost a year after I bought my first h2 and I'm ready to get rid of my wifes xterra for another h2. BUT I can't decide on a 2007 or 2008.

What I like about 2007:
-They come in yellow
-I like the interior
-They are insane cheap right now cause my new dealership is trying to unload them and they have more 07 then 08.

What I like about 2008
-bigger engine
-bigger transmission
-supposedly better effiency all around.
-black interior easier to get

I can't really decide. I know that I could save a few bucks for aftermarket on an 07, but the 08 engine and tranny drive so nice.

I thought about buying an 08, then getting it repainted yellow LOL. I know it seems nuts, but I drive a neon green dodge charger, so I like loud colors. How much extra is that sunfire color on the 08?

Further considerations would be aftermarket accessories. 2003 to 2007 parts will generally be common and interchangable. The completely redesigned 2008 aftermarket scene is very thin right now.

Does anyone feel that despite the changes the 6.2 and 6 speed tranny make, u forget ur love of the original interior?

if you loved your 03.... then you will notice the 08 is very "Flat chested".... going with the 07 is the only choice....

Not really...
Gasoline Octane
Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but your vehicle's acceleration could be slightly reduced, and you might notice a slight audible knocking noise, commonly referred to as spark knock. If the octane is less than 87, you might notice a heavy knocking noise when you drive. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could damage the engine. If you are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and you hear heavy knocking, the engine needs service.

The engine knock sensor will signal any knock that might be induced due to running 87 octane fuel and the computer will retard the timing to compensate. Yes, there will be a slight power reduction, but unless towing or running up and down the rockies, you will not notice much of a difference. At least I didn't when I tested it out.

I think that you should go with the 2008.  The transmission and engine are the real attraction.  I also like the changes to the 08 interior they have made.  I have an 06 H2 and will probably get an 09  next year.  When you weight the initial price difference and consider the immediate used value of the trucks the price benefit for the 07 may disappear pretty quick.  Buty the 2008.

You would have to get an insanely reduced price on an 07 to make that economically desireable at this juncture in regard to the long term (resale/trade) because you too will take a beating later.
Maybe you can find a deal you can't refuse???  Good luck.

I used to run plain 87 octane in my 03 and I noticed that if I put in say, 91, it would burn up faster with no increased MPG to show.

The 2007 charger manual tells me to put in 89 octane, no less or it will screw the engine up. It also states that putting in anything higher then 89 will be a waste. Does the 2008 h2 manual say something similar or is that just through personal observations?

Also, when I purchased my 03 h2 last nov, I discovered that it had the original blue airfilter stamped with a june 2002 date. It was caked with dirt and looked to never have been changed in almost 5years despite the dealership saything they just changed it prior to my purchase. What do u suppose that does to an engine when it doesn't get any air all those years?

Although I prefer the 2007 interior over the 2008's, I would purchase the 2008 because the newer model,  style, and motor is the best way to go in the long run, unless of course the 2007 cost is WAY, WAY lower.

I want a base model either way, though I wouldn't mind an adventure package. No luxury cause (cover ur ears) I don't like chrome.

I know the 08's are pushing 60k, while I'm sure I could swing an 07 for under 50.

Mechanically I want the 08, for looks and preferance I want the 07. So unless peeps are claiming mid to high teens mpg, or that this 6 speed tranny reinvents the wheel, I'm almost preferring an 07.

I think the best thing to do would be go and test drive another 08, and then an 07 to see how I feel about the two back to back.

In terms of exhaust and intake, did they change from 07 to 08?

yea i think you should also go with the 08, the engine and transmission is a big step up and think about resale value youll always get more for the 08 than the 07 even if its the same car with same mileage and features its just the year that counts

I was in the same place you are, between an '07 or an '08. I've had an '03 an '04 and an '05 to date.

The 'incentives' on the '07 are nice and I must say that I have always liked the interior of the pre-'08's.

Now a little about the '08...

-Exterior is about the same with some small changes. I really like the new grille.
-Interior wise, the new interior is more towards a luxury vehicle, but has grown on me over the past month now. Fit and finish are great, but I didn't think the pre'08's were that bad either.
-Engine, Trans and 3.73 Gearing are outstanding.
-Since day one I have been running 87 Octane fuel with NO issues.
-I have about 1500 miles on it now and I'm getting 13.6 MPG City driving (this is going up) and have seen 17+ MPG when driving on rural roads at 40-45 MPH.
-Running boards and roof racks are NOT standard anymore. Although you should be able to work them in as part of your deal if you want them. I did.

I also removed the rear tire carrier, got a license plate holder from the dealer for an '03-'05 and put that on. Cost wise there's no doubt that you'll get an '07 for less than an '08. But with all things considered you'll probably be happier in the long run you went with the '08. Although if you get an '07 it's still going to be a great vehicle!

Honestly, If I was looking TODAY, I'd probably go with the '08 just for the BIGGER ENGINE!!!

The interior is STARTING to grow on me!!!

Good points.....

silly question..... what did you do with the spare?
sbrennan007

I put the tire carrier and the spare in my shed. I'll bet the both of those together are close to 250lbs.

I have 2 herniated dics in my back, so if I were to ever get a flat I'm gonna be calling for assistance anyway as I'd have a hard time changing that tire anyway. I'd probably get it off and down ok, but getting the other one back up there...

I'd like to take the spare out my my cargo area... but I know I wouldn't be able to live with the looks of all of that once the bracket was gone... (03)

I had an 04, loved the truck, not much into the interior rattles, although I took care of most of that.  Purchased the 08 a few weeks ago and its a great truck. 6speed trans. is so smooth and the paddle shifters are alot of fun.  Engine had tons of power and just feels like it always has more to give, sound is amazing and I dont think it even needs an upgraded exhaust. Interior is perfect, no rattles, silent cabin, one touch buttons everywhere (use to hate holding the sunroof button) Seats, fit and finish are perfect. Lights still are not that great however im upgrading to an HID kit, and im kind of liking the wheeles, which are a two tone polished and painted. Im getting on average 12-14 in the city and 17 on the highway, NEVER came close to that with my 04 which had headers, airbox, and exhaust.  The dealer was blowing out his 07s but the deal never would have been good enough to make up for the hit due to the redesigned 08s.
