Hey,
So my h3 went over 50,000 last week so i took my vehicle into my local tune-up shop for the 50k tune up ( oil change, both diff's, transmission fluid, tire rotation )
so guy seemed super cool said he would check on the tranny and diff's to make sure they actually needed changing, he sounded like a straight up guy ( although i figured he would end up saying i needed  the work, and he was being sly about trying to seem concerend for my $$)

so yes he did end up saying i needed  the tranny and diff's done which i was prepared to do and so i said ok.

then i when i go to pick it up he says - oh and your front brakes,  the pads or cracked and severly worn, and the front rotors are now bacly gorooved.  i can do all this for $$$$$  but i need to order parts.

I say no thanks, ( i always do my own brakes anyway)

sure enough  Rotor is in 100% perfect condition, brake poads at abouit 30-40% of wear, not cracked or anything, everything just fine.   the pads are slotted, so maybe he thought is was a crack?  doubt it !!

so yea he ened up being a slime ball,  I am going to bring the pads to him and show him !!!!

oh and WOW  the easiest brake pads to change ever !!  how awsome !!   why dont all brake pads just slide out like that,, took me about 10 times longer to do the wives Audi TT

Anything to make a buck!

I wonder if he really changed the fluid in the diff and trans.

I have not had good experiences with those quick oil change shops except for one run by a friend of mine. I either do it myself or take it back to the dealer.

it wasn't a "quick lube type place"   but yea you do wonder what actually does happen there.  I did look at the rear diff after to see if it looked like they did anything and it looks like the at least checked, because there is some fluid there that spilled out.   my dealer moved and now its like 40 - 50 min away sort of sucks

I just changed the Diff fluid front and rear to Royal Purple 75-90, and it was stupid simple. Took about 20 min for both. I really don't trust anyone to do maint. on my vehicles. That includes dealerships.

i share your sentiment as far as the tt takes forever and the h3 takes 10 minutes a corner haha... btw nice choice in cars got the same combo as you haha make sure you buy the special tool for the rear of the tt brakes if you do them... its like 40 bucks and saves you some major headaches...

If he told you they were bad there is nothing you can do...

if he prepared an estimate you could report them...
