did you check your local dealer? the new ones on the '06 are nicer than the earlier ones. i don't know who makes an aftermarket model.

Let me give you my take on the rear carrier. The GM one is very nice, very heavy duty and works well. For me, it is a pain to use. It swings open, so you cant be backed up against another car, bushes, wall etc. If you want to open the rear. If space in the interior is real concern than maybe the rear carrier is the way to go. I just find that swinging that thing open to put in some grocery bags or a box from Home Depot to be a pain. If your parked so another car is behind you, you will have move the truck up so you can have clearance to swing open the carrier and then lift the rear hatch. I also personaly think the H2 looks better with out it. The Gobbi roof rack with tire carrier is nice and will give you peice of mind knowng you have the spare with you.

i agree with the space constraint, but i'm not into lifting an 80lb tire off the roof rack in the rain. i don't know if the '05 is different than the '06, i know it's different than mine, it's got a beefier catch, not just a pin to hold it in place. i just got a gobi, but without the tire carrier, that way i won't be tempted to try to stow it there. besides, i like not being able to see out the back window, the 37" toyos do a better job of blocking the view than the stock tires.

When I need space, I just take out my spare tire and leave it in the garage. I do carry, however, a portable air compressor and a tire repair kit. I also cross my fingers just in case
I think that if an H2's stock tires are hardy enough to withstand rough terrain, they should be hardy enough to withstand a trip to Walmart.
I even travel out of town without it !

there's not much on the road these days that will give you a flat. our last trip to the desert, we had one guy pick up a construction staple in a stock tire, but it held long enough to get back to town and replace it. having the built in compressor helped.

By the way, that spare tire might weigh 80 lbs, but it seems like a 100. I don't think my wife would be able to change the tire if the need arose.

your wife has the advantage of just calling triple A to have someone do it for her. i wouldn't feel right having someone else change a tire for me.

hello! While I don't own an H2, I know of an awesome aftermarket tire carrier by predator motorsports. It also has a drop down feature, which is awesome!! Just swing it out, pull the pin out and drop it down. You could go to predatormotorsports.com or check around other web sites for one cheaper. I know stallioncustoms.com has one, I go there for my H3 parts :)
