Radar detectors, sprays, plate shields, VEIL

Considering how large Hummer's are, and how much chrome they might have, it makes them a perfect target for police Laser and Radar. Who can share their advice and experience on what is the best:

1) place and way to mount a radar detector (feel free to let know your preference of the type of radar - V1, Passport, or BEL);
2) whether using smth like VEIL, that absorbs or diffuses police Laser, is worth it (and what about the front grill - is a car-bra worth it);
3) and whether anyone used those car license plate shields from laser, or shields and spray's from photo radars?

or option 4) Don't Speed

Audil, The Escort radar systems are the only way to go. The SR7 plus is what I use on my vehicle. I have used one for the past 5 years. It detects all bands and defusses laser. I have been saved so many times by my laser defusser it is unreal how great it works. Laser is a precise beam that the cops aim at your front Lic Plate and when they hit you with laser you have got a ticket. If they hit you while you are using the Laser Defusser they will get a no reading on their gun.  The only defense is the SR7 plus or the ZR3 Shifter. These products are made by Escort and are the best product available. You will not get a ticket with this system if you pay attention to what the system is telling you. If you do not have a laser defusser in combination with your radar dectector you will get tickets. Most all PD use Laser as much as possible.
I am in the business selling these systems and I know which ones work.

but are the SR7 and/or ZR3 legal in CA, VA, DC, NE, Oklahoma, some parts of Canada, etc? As far as I know, not, and they result in E04 error code in police laser guns, right? But I head that VEIL along with a license plate diffuser and a good radar detector (well, there is only one that's undetectable by police RDD - the Bel STi, if one wants to use a RD in the abovementioned jurisdictions) should do the trick in all states, including those where laser jammers, whether active or passive, are illegal.

By the way, the speed limit till 1970s was 75 mph. Now, some jurisdictions lower it to 55 or 60 on perfectly straight and wide highways. In places like VA, anything over 80mph is considered "reckless driving" (even in CA this is only for those driving over 100mph). So did cars get less safer or roads got worse since 1970s? Nope, but making millions of those "reckless" speeders who drive 70 on a 60 mph road is in fashion. And after that we hear that police is understaffed - of course, since so many are traffic cops instead of being normal policemen that actually catch criminals in neighborhoods, not those "speeders" on highways.

Yeah the speed limits have been slowing down?  Why?  Because of other irresponsible drivers who ends up getting themselfs or somone else killed.   Now we all have to drive slower.

Come live in Michigan with us, speed limit is still in the 70's.

The speed limit was lowered in the 1970s due to the oil embargo, since lower speedlimit resulted in less gas consumption. Since it also led to less deaths, or so it was claimed, the municipalities and states kept it or lowered it more. All at the same time as cars (brakes, tires, etc) were getting better and safer, and people more educated about dangers of crossing the road in unauthorized places.

By the way, the fact that increased speed does not always correlates with increased deaths is evident from European, especially German experience -- despite the fact that their roads are much more narror than ours. But it is much harder to get a drivers' license over there as well as in Japan, for example. Meanwhile, in US, it's a piece of cake to get a license in some states.

Moreover, a substantial portion of traffic accidents is from intoxicated drivers. Meanwhile, for those of us who have great driving experience/record, well maintained new cars with ABS system, and who are sober, we need to protect ourselves from indiscriminate lasers, radars and speed traps out there. Especially when driving big and shiny H3's.

Audil-----You ask for help and that is my recomendation. Yes you are right it is illegal in some states but if you know how to use the system it is undetectable. When they hit you with laser, you double tap the unit and the laser shuts off ,you slow down and they hit you again because they did not get a reading the first time, you have slowed down and they get a reading that is now the speed limit because you have slowed down.

That was the reason in the 70's, but today, the only reason for them lowering the speed is usually thanks to ambulance chasers from victims of someone who was drunk, speeding, and/or killed someone else.... or someone who thought they would be cool to dive an exorbitant speed.  But the logic is also flawed, as someone who is drunk or doesn't care about the speed limit; a lower number is less likely to deter them.

Interesting point, I wish we could see Afghanistan’s numbers, they don't require anything to drive.  I think we have a lot of stupid mixed in the gene pool here and people are too distracted by other non-driving duties and our punishment is... mediocre at best.  Europe has a better traffic control system and they don't take crap for speeders... also, the license is an actual test... not just a simple "if you can walk you can get a car.... hell even if you cant" thing they call a test. lol.

Reminds me when I went to the DMV for a custom plate... some old lady was there applying for a license... her daughter had to help her walk to the desk (the daughter must have at least been in her 60's).... she couldn't understand (bad hearing), she didn't really know what was going on, she couldn't walk or react on her own.... and she couldn't see the sign well for the visual test... guess what... SHE GOT A LICENSE...

My 3 is too freeking slow to get caught speeding.  Wife loves it, but then she looks at Oldsmobiles and realizes it's a loosing battle.  Glad that old lady is up by you Okie, and not over here!

ZR3 rocks and has never failed me. I have the 8500 dash mount RD with ZR3 as I like to be able to move the 8500 from the H2 to the H3 when I drive the wife's ride (H3 better on gas).
 
The ZR3 has saved many from many lazer gun related tickets!
 
Escort has a new dash mount unit that has GPS chip in it that works with the ZR3. It can sote false alarm locations so you can put them in memory for frequent places you pass with false alarms and it can also store speed traps and alert ytou ahead of time and does much more with the GPS chip inside. I want one of these!

I just use a Bel radar detector, not nearly as comprehensive or expensive as Escort but it's worked well for me. I have seen very few cops using laser so it's not a concern of mine. Most in Phx simply keep the gun on so it's easy to spot them in advance. On reasonably busy roads if they are just pulsing it you'll catch them looking at someone else. The only time I've been caught in years was on an empty highway in KS where he got me w/ instant on and he hadn't had a chance to use it on anyone else. No radar detector would've prevented that as there was no advance warning.

I don't like plate diffusers as it seems to say to a cop that "I know I"m going to speed so I better cover my license plate". I've only received one ticket in the last several years despite being pulled over a half dozen times or so (not all speeding). Honesty, and a quick hiding of the detector, has got me out of several tickets. I don't think a diffuser would've helped my case there.

All that said-- I pretty much drive within 9 mph of the speed limit. Photo radar here goes off at 11 mph over speed limit.
