When I purchased the Zaino system, the instructions stated that before applying the polish, one should first wash the entire vehicle with Dawn dishwashing liquid in order to strip off any other waxes or polishes. One may at this time clay the vehicle if they wish. After that apply a coating of detail spray in order to have the polish adhere better. Then apply the polish. This can be repeated, detail spray and polish, as many times as desired, finishing with the detailing spray. Ok, this is alot of work, but the car that I did this to looked great. As I was reading other posts, ICE seems to be the popular choice around here. If I were to switch to ICE, do I, or should I follow a similar proceedure that Zaino recommends? Thanks.

SD..

One thing I noticed about ICE was that it didn't remove water spots, like on chrome and dark finishes...I would wash and dry the car real good and make sure you get all the water spots...If any tar or road grime still remained, I went over those areas with a Carnauba wax and I highly recommend this Wax below as a prep wax before ICE....But once you're past the initital prep, subsequent ICE apllications are even easier.

It is Mark..It strips all the oil and waxes out of the finish..leaving it barenaked ..Kinda like washing your hands in laquer thinner.

It would only be bad if all you did was wash it and then leave it alone. You have to at least wax it to seal the paint or the sun will dry it out and it will oxidise faster. Dishwashing detergent is the best stuff if you actually are going to strip the paint down, but otherwise it is a worse idea then dressing up like Hitler and trick or treating in a Jewish neighborhood on Halloween.
