I just changed my oil. I remember the debate as to whether or not to pay attention to the DIC / Onstar for it, so I thought that I would wait and see what the outcome of this is. Let me tell you, go with what we were all taught as kids and forget about the damned light/Onstar report:
I don't think the pic fully shows the effects, but it isn't pretty. He's happy with a full belly of Mobil 1 and a new Mobil 1 oil filter now. He won't go over 5,000 miles again without a change.
Oh, that was mostly HWY driving with the exception of yesterday and a trip through the wilderness area 2 weeks ago.

Mine is done every 3k. It will get done this week while I have the time off before lots of driving at the end of the month.

Every 3K miles here on all my cars with Amsoil synthetic Series 2000 or Signature Series.

It was almost 8,000 miles before it told me to do it. Just wanted to see what how it worked. Like I said, every 5,000 with Mobil 1 normally.

Mine's a lease. Have 40K mi. on it. Light just came on for the 3rd change... Guess that averages out to about 13,000 between changes. If I was going to keep it for years and put 150,000 miles on it, I might stick to 5,000 to 7,500/change. But with the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, if you follow the light, you're covered for whatever happens to the engine because of GM's light/OnStar monitor.

I found that the H2 computer was dead on. On the H3 we are changing the oil about every 4000 miles.

I agree with Rhill, forget On Star, every 5k with Mobil 1 synthetic and filter. Your truck will love you.
