Alright guys,
Here is the deal. Hummerguy(Mike), Zyne(Nick) and myself have been talking about a spring Hummer trip. I have been doing some research and it looks like a great Location will be Harlan County, KY. Visit Harlancountytrails.com for specifics. Basically the County thrives on the Off Road Visitors it brings. They have over 40K Acres. Yes i said over 40,000 acres of offroad park that is free to ride in and camp in. It looks like I will be headed down on March 22 to scout the area on an ATV and see if I can line us up a guide. This should be a great location as the guys from the Midwest can make the drive as well as the South. Harlan county is in Eastern, KY very close to the KY/TN border.
As a side note I have contaced Extreme 4x4 from Spike TV to see if they would want to send Ian and Jessie along for the trip as they never really show anything Hummer related.
I am thinking of doing this trip the weekend before Mothers Day. That way we dont intrude on anyones Summer Holiday Trips. So lets set a tenative date for May 3-4?????

I'm going with THCI to kinzlow's Offroad Park in Dayton, TN May 14th-19th. I'm not sure if I would be up for 4 11 hour road trips in 2 weeks. But keep us informed of the trip and I'll see what I can do.

I think you meant the website to be trails insted of trials.

This one may be a little hard. We are going on a road trip at the end of May, so I don't know if I'll want to make two trips like that. We'll see how busy we get and if I can get my wife's dream road trip vehicle done lol

Nick took a bad fall down the stairs the other day as well. He's waiting to hear from his doctor about the MRI results. He said it's either a slipped or ruptured disk, the latter of which they would have to fuse two of his disks together, something he has avoided because of his recent therapy. He may be out of commision for a while as well. He couldn't even drive for a few days because of it.
We'll have to play this one by ear, but I definitely want to go.

That would be better only a week later than you planned and we'll have Hummer support just in case any of us have issues with our trucks. I didn't go to this event last year but from what I read in the Azimuth Magazine they had a great time. I'm bringing my father with me on this trip, he's been begging for me to take him off road. So it's going to be a father/son trip for me, it would be great to mmeet you guys.

Ohh I could drive alright, it was the morphine/vicodin coctail I'm back on that prevented it .. lol MRI results are somewhat clean, slipped the damn L4/L5 disk and the crap that is sticking out is bulging pretty good but no ruptures *woooo hooo* 6 months including therapy, 50 lbs worth of weightloss, strengthening, etc, and I'm back to square one ... but count me in for the HCT trip boys! As long as my right leg don't go numb again I'm all good to bounch around in the mud for a while.
To clearify what Mike said, the fall wasn't really THAT bad, I just break easily in that particular area. Was walking down with a hamper full of laundry and slipped in the damn stairs and went bouncing down 10 or so steps. Heard and felt the lumbar region pop and that's all she wrote .. like Mike said, since I have degenerative disk disease as well they are not inclined to mess with my disks or try to allow them to heal since they are so destroyed to begin with. My l4/l5/s1 disks are all in bad shape and I know I'll need to get at least l4/l5 fused and cleaned out within the next 10 years, s1 is also a real posibility as that's where the majority of the spinal canal narrowing is located.
Anyways, I'm fine, in pain, and drugged up (again). Now lets get a wheeling trip going guys .. I don't care if it's HCT or Dayton TN, lets just all hook up and go have some fun!

Eric, this is probably not going to happen anytime soon I would assume. Nick won't be doing any off-roading probably until next year with his back, and we've got two Badlands trips going on at the end of May, a possible trip to Silver Lake Michigan dunes in June, and who knows what else.
I'd like to take a weekend trip somewhere though besides all of this, so let me know if you still want to organize something. We may be able to get more forum members involved.

Mike,
I still want to do a trip to Harlan County Kentucky. My dad went down Easter Weekend and told me I would have a field day in my Hummer. There are awesome destinations and views. Its a 40,000 Acre park that is free. You can camp in the park for free. Its about a 4 hour trip from Cincy. I dont know what your drive would be but it would be worth it I am sure. I do know that Memorial Day weekend is out for me as I will be at the lake. Not sure what Lake but I will be at one! lol.

Why not come out to THCI Event in May in Dayton, TN. I'm going and so is another forum member Camou2. The event is running along side with the town's Strawberry Festival and there are plenty of activities to do.

Trey; I would love to but I have the following week already scheduled off and can't change it anymore because my co-workers have off the prior week that the event is taking place. Otherwise I'd take you up on that, especially since my wife wants to go to TN. I'm hoping we can take a trip there later in the summer/fall.

That's too bad, the other Hummer Club trip is in October at Windrock, TN. No date set on that one just yet but I'll keep you posted.

I'll tell you what. I have a folder with all of my THCI info in it. I'll dig it up tonight and renew my membership. If I can't do the one in May, I definitely want to try to do the next one in TN. Just keep in mind, our H3 is one and only vehicle, so I may not be up to doing as much as you guys do, although it seems like everybody has been getting along well with no major damage. Is that correct in assuming that?
I was also thinking about buying a spare tie rod because it seems like that's most of what people break. I just dont know if they break the rods or the joints, or both.

The Club Events are geared for everyone, if you don't want to go over a certain obstacle there is usually a bypass that you could take. You have to remember the very first event I went to I had the base model H3 and I didn't have any problems. I did what everyone else did and never got stuck or broke anything.
As for buying spare parts, I wouldn't if your going to just wheel at THCI events they repair everything for you and have you back on the trail the next day.
I wasn't planning on going to the Windrock event but if you tell me your are going to be there, than I'll go.
I haven't broken anything yet, knock on wood, the only problem I've seen at my last 2 THCI trips was 1 flat tire and 1 mud flap ripped off. As for Muddy and my trips nobody has every broken anything.

That's how the Badlands park is also. There are multiple ways around everything.
I'll let you know. My wife gets a little concerned with our finances because of gas prices and so forth but with all of the projects I'll have to do in the next few months, It will turn into working late to pay for the trips, hopefully.
She's 23, so she hasn't hit that stage yet where she realizes life is too short to worry about that stuff

I guess it's a 30+ thing

By then, you realize how much time you have left and you better get moving before it's too late
