hi all ... just made the leap from a 2000 Jee TJ to a 2003 Hummer H2 (and what a leap  )
and i already have the mod itch .... so need to know the following:

-where can i get and how much will it cost an aftermarket spare tire mount for the back - eats too much space inside
 (hard to install? etc.)

-installing a 8000lb winch - how much do installations usually cost? - got a decent price for it (FREE) but now need to research $$$ to install - never owing a GM vehicle (are the labour rates fair???)

anyway, will post pix once i get the truck and the gas recpt for my first fill up

welcome.  can't help with the spare tire carrier, but you should probably be able to find one on ebay.  or go to your local junk yard and see if they have one.

as for the winch, you could get a cradle for it that slides into your front hitch receiver.  i think 8000 lbs is a bit small for an H2 though, you should get a winch rated at least 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle you'll be winching out.  there are winch bumpers available if you want to permanently mount it, but i've never had an issue with the cradle.  it will reduce your approach angle a bit, but it depends on what you plan to do offroad as to how much that will affect you.

Ebay usually has exterior tire mounts. They seem to sell for 300-600. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the H2. My dealer wanted about $1800.00 installed for a Warn that was rated at 8000#. I agree with Shortbus that you probably want a bigger winch.

Labor rates at my dealer in SoCal are $100.00/hour. When do you pick up your Hummer?

Welcome Friend, I found and purchased my WARN 8000 Lb. Winch through craigslist.com also you can try ebay.
You can mount it yourself.
You should have a Winch Hitch mount extension attached to your inside spare tire. Or you can get one from the dealer.
This piece slides into the front hitch and locks in place with the long probe which fits through a hole on top of the front bumper. It is included with the spare tire changing kit.
Next, you would need a Winch hitch mounting plate (from ebay) which slides into the above mentioned extension.
You can now mount the winch on top of the mounting plate and bolt it down. You can either connect the winch wires directly to the battery (make sure they reach) or you can purchase (ebay) a pair of winch battery quick disconnects if you plan on removing the winch from time to time.
Also don't forget a winch cover (ebay) and a winch accessory kit (Clevis/D Shackles, Snatch Block, Straps, Gloves, chains and carrying tote bag)
I also purchased from ebay my exterior spare tire holder $500
Be sure it comes with the license plate holder which rests on top of the spare tire at the hub. Or you can get one separatly.
You can mount it yourself also.
The Spare tire holder uses the same 4 bolts which hold the recovery loops. Just remove them and put the tire holder in its place.
Keep us updated! Take care.

Wow, if things cost $55 an hour I would probably take mine in for everything from oil changes to changing the wiper blades. I'm not sure on cost in SF Bay Area, CA but I'm guessing if housing, gas and everything else costs more here then I'm sure the dealer rates are up there too.

Newbie2007, congrats on the new ride. I see that you another one of the yellow crowd and even have snow.
