What's up everyone? I am very glad to be a part of the Hummer Forum and I would love to speak to anyone willing to help a new dude out. I will be picking up my new, new to me anyway, 1997.5 H1 wagon next week. I have always wanted this truck and the day has come. I can't even describe how pumped up I am. It's black, fully loaded, 53,ooo miles on it, etc. I will post some pics later. If you have ANYTHING you want to share with me please do so and be real with me. I'm looking forward to meeting tons of new people. If any of y'all are in Louisiana, please contact me so I can get in on the local stuff. I'm in Hammond, LA. Take care!

Welcome to the forum rt and congrats on the H1. Not sure about LA but lots of active groups and people in East and Central Texas. Looking forward to seeing the pics. Let us know in the H1 forum what questions and issues you have and we will try to help.

I will. And from what I understand you are the man when it comes to H1's. I see you have a 98. Mine was built in march of 97. I look forward to talking with you and I'm sure your help will be invaluable along with all the other long timers on here. I guess I'm gonna have to get a local Hummer club going on. Our state is full of great places to go. Anything that pops up right away when talking 97/97.5 H1's? Excuse my desire to get the bad news up front....just my ignorance on the subject coming through coupled with my thoughts about how this is just too good to be true. I know it's a beast of a vehicle, tougher and better than any other by far, and I expect to work on it and do all the routine preventative maintenance. Just looking ahead a little. Thanks again for the welcome!!

Main thing is any deferred maintenance. They aren't too bad if you stay on top of it. Lots of people let things go and next thing you know you have 5K in stuff to do. If you have the 97.5 you have the updated HVAC, which is a big deal. The 97-2001 ( mainly 97-98 ) had some block issues with the #8 cylinder. Might want to do some research and see if your has been fixed. Most were fixed by the 30K mileage mark. Only 25-30% of the trucks had the issue. If you have stock wheels you have the 16.5 inch tires and those are getting hard to find and the selection is pretty limited. You may want to consider upsizing to 17". Interior trim pieces are hard to find if you need replacements. If you need anything let us know and we can try to steer you to some places that will treat you right.

I own a white H3. Was excited until I found out that Nick McKnight is a fat liar. He sold me a "top of the line" alarm system for my vehicle. Obviously having such a nice car I wanted to make sure it was safe. Someone popped my lock, pulled off my fuel cap and then some jerk off threw a huge rock through the passenger window. I returned with the car to Hummer of Sacramento thinking they would be so eager to assist me with my faulty alarm. Nick McKnight said the alarm will only set off if the car is opened from the inside. What burglar do you know breaks out of a car?? I said I was told any shock to they vehicle would set it off and I felt that the damage should be repaired, atleast the window, for a very reasonable price. Eric Sorias said he will take off 10%. It would be $490!! I said I wanted to speak to the owner. I was given about 5 numbers none of which connected me to the owner. 2 of them was Erics direct line and the receptionist. You can imagine my anger building at this point. Anyways, I agreed to leave the car there for repair but I would need a ride home. I was told noone would do that for me. HA!!! I left the dealership and took the car somewhere else. Then I was givin a ride home by an employee at this other establishment. I finally did some research on my own and found a number for Hummer Division Customer Care 800 222-1020. Hummer of Sacramento is shady atleast I know Nick McKnight, Eric Sorias and Josh Hansen are.

bummer sylvia. i don't know any of those guys, unless eric is the sole service writer. guess the others are sales guys - and they don't like me cuz i didn't buy my truck there. i'm in sac hummer a lot and haven't had any issue - although none have been like yours.
anyway, this should probably be in a different thread, we're hijacking an excited members thread about his pending H1 purchase - congrats. i hear the mud in LA is like gumbo - you should have a blast . . . .

Hello everyone. Sorry for taking so long to reply but I kept checking my email to see if anyone had replied to my post and nothing! I'll have to check my settings. Anyway, I appreciate the warm welcome!!! All I can say is that my big bad black H1 is the best thing I've ever bought in my life. We had the annual Smokin Blues and BBQ fest this weekend in Hammond, LA, my hometown, and it made a good time even better. I had girls dancing on top of that thing at 3am. Everyone loves it! Trust me, I'm not one who craves attention but the reaction you get out of people when thy see an H1 for the 1st time is great. It just makes people happy and that makes me happy. I can't wait to get that thing in it's natural habitat......climbing and crawling. The truth is that I'm not into mudding. Everyone wants to try to sink it. I used to have a Wrangler with mud tires, lifted, etc. and the side effects on the vehicle from mudding, not to mention the hours of work afterwards, just doesn't justify it for me. Anyway, it's time to go to work but I look forward to talking and hanging with everyone. Y'all have a friend in Louisiana.....come down and have a good time. I think a Hummer get together in he French Quater sounds like a GREAT idea.

Welcome back. Glad you are enjoying the Hummer. My H1s always seem to get a reaction. Almost always positive. Everyone is curious. I agree on the mudding. It is a lot of fun and I really like playing in the mud but the hours of clean up take the buzz off of the good time.
