Anthony from Livonia, whaaaaz up.  I would take the smerf bars off, but if you stay to the mellow stuff, you could keep em on with only a minimal risk of bending them up.
You are now one of the Michigan gang.  Some of us are in the early, very early stages, of setting up a Silver Lake run, I will keep you in the loop.  We will post up an invite in the forums when we get a good idea on dates that can work for most.

I got to tell ya, with those 20 inch rims, your gonna have to pay attention or get burried cuz they were never meant for low tire pressure serious off road.  You'll still have a blast, we all will.  Hopefully you can make it with a group of us.

Get a strap, folding shovel, and you need a flag.......can buy the flags there, and if ya come with us, we will help you out.  When it gets to posting an invite, we can fill everybody in.   Welcome.

Doc: Are there hotels/motels to stay in around there?

Many hotel/motels very close by, many more within approx. 15 - 20 mile, several campgrounds, and cottages for rent.  Great family fun environment.  I almost always stay at the Silver Sands http://www.silversandsresort.net/.     Links to check out whaaazz up:  http://www.silverlakesanddunes.com/  and   http://www.silverlakesanddunes.net/

rhill, you are mucho welcome.  I strongly suggest you make the trip, if you can't make it when a group goes, do it when you can.  Always let us know when you plan to go, there are lots of folks on the forum that may like to hook up for some sand action!

BTW the drive up the west side of MI is much better than the I-75 parking lot up the middle.

thanks doc olds, i appreciate the offer and input.  if my schedule permits, i would love to join some of you degenerates on a trip to the dunes.  i've been there on a couple occasions, never drove my own vehicle before though.  i worried about the 20 inch rims and how they would react on the sand.  it makes sense that they would not react as well as the stocks since the rims are much larger.  maybe i should purchase some stocks just in case.  i'm sure some if you guys know of some websites where i can purchase some stocks.  so where can i get a mod for the flag?  just curious.

what's the best way to get up testhill with the h3. my guess would be 4 hi locked with the auto transmission in 2nd.

Tires at 13-15psi, turn OFF the StabiliTrack (do not use in sand), 4 hi lock, let the trans do its thing in D, get a little monentum ....20-25mph should be pleanty, and as soon as you start to go up, mash the gas WOT and hold it until just before the peak, roll over the top in the throttle just enough (may have to feather) to keep moving and avoid a high center until clear, stab the brakes, take in the view.

for the life of me i cannot figure out how to turn off StabiliTrack with a automatic transmission.  the only way i cant get it to turn off is to switch to 4 low, then the screen says stabilitrack off.  as soon as i select 4 hi on the transfer case, it comes back on.

Look all the way to your right and you will see the button that looks like you are fishtailing, Push that in for about 5 seconds and it will turn off. Just do the same again to turn back on.

i figured it out.  i have a defective StabiliTrack button.  i have a button there, but it was not active.  in other words, i could not push it in.  i could see the button, but when i put pressure on it, it would not push in.  finally i really put some real pressure on it and it pushed it.  it felt like it was somehow stuck.  now it is stuck in the depressed mode.  the dashboard light does light up and the traction control does get disabled sometimes when i push it, other times it does not work at all.  very frustrating.  will have the dealership fix it.  thought i was losing my mind.  damn defective buttons.
