Hey Everyone! I have had my H3 for a few weeks and have not seen a gas light come on when I get low? Do they even have one? When I fill up at the first red line.....it takes 19 gal. I know it has a 23 gal. tank......just want to know how far I can get.

hey there...Nice salmon!

I think you have to get down to about a 1 and 1/2 gallons remaining before the low fuel indicator comes on...

You guys are braver than me to go looking for that low fuel light. I refill at a half tank, and definately no lower than a quarter tank remaining.

It will also start making a dinging noise through the stereo. I let mine run down many times. Most of the time, it will come on after you get down to 3 gallons or less. I let it run down almost every time until the light comes on, and my experience has been if you fill up right after that happens, you still have about 3 gallons left, but don't blame me if I'm off. I would stick to Dennis's 1 1/2 to be safe ;-)

Actually, it's not a light. A message comes up on the Odometer display that says "Low Fuel" so it pretty much smacks you in the face along with the doorbell sound. When that light comes on, you should have at least 30 miles to drive before you need to start panicing ;-)

I wouldn't make it a habit of running it too low. Running it out of gas once is enough to cause heat damage to the fuel pump. (it stays cool by being submerged in the gas) You will shorten the life of the fuel pump drastically. Running it to empty twice is almost a garantee to kill it very prematurely. If you like pulling the gas tank to replace it, then go for it... or paying big bucks for someone else to do it. I can think of better ways to spend my time or money.

Oh.. and when they usualy go out, there is little to no warning at all... they just pick a place, an inopertune moment, to not start.. leaving you sitting in a parking lot somewhere.

I'm sure some are thinking, "I have onstar, or it's under warranty" but If the dealership sees that it's burnt up from running it low/empty, they can choose to hand you a nice little bill when it's done.

Just a word of advice.

Well, I meant 30 miles before you should pull into the nearest gas station, otherwise your a ticking time bomb after that :)

I never thought of that. I honestly didn't even know that. Now that I do, I won't let it happen again. Thanks for the info!

I try not to let it go below 1/4 tank to be on the safe side, and I live in LA so theres a gas station or 2 on almost every corner.
