LIGHT BAR WIRING

Hey All...my second post of the day requesting advice. The first go-around worked pretty good so here goes # 2. I'm building a roof rack that also has an integrated light bar and wondered the best route for the wiring...I know there are oem light bars and marker lights for the H3 and assume the wiring goes into the plastic roof edging, but where from there? Is there a hole for the wiring to get down into the vehicle? What is the procedure for removing the plastic edging on the windshield pillar?

I'd like to send the wiring through the light bar and out the bottom of it's base. It will sit in the center of the plastic roof edging just behind where the seam is for the plastic windshield pillar edging. I've included a couple photos for clarification.

Whew...Thanks for your input!

nice work!!! As far as running the wires, take the o chit handlesoff from inside teh truck and work the door trim ff...held on by some clips, from there you should see how the wires will have to run. There is a channel that you can run the wires in...if memory serves.

Do I have to drill through the roof or is there an an access hole?

that I cannot help you with.....but either way it's no biggie...I would assume you have to drill through the roof.

I've heard there is an access hole on the H2...was hoping the same for the H3...

go to the search function and type in H3 off orad light install. 4-5 threads are there and a couple might be helpful to you. Several didn't look to have any good Post and let us know how it turns out. Nice looking rack and light bar.

I installed the SMA light bar and you do not drill thru the roof on the H3! You drill thru the plastic molding and you add a piece of metal under it for support ! Heres a link with some pics of the pieces http://www.hummerforums.com/m_115357/tm.htm as far as the wiring you remove the Molding from the wind shield and run the wire into the engine and thru one of the plugs in the firewall! No holes to drill!! I also installed the factory light bar and the wires go in the same location.

First, I don't know if this will work or not. But check out the audio/visual area on here. I was reading a post about someone switching to Sirius and the ran the wire for the antenna down beside the windshield and through the firewall where the hood release cable goes through. He put some really good pics to help. Different subject I know, but same issue (wires). Might work  http://www.hummerforums.com/m_69805/tm.htm
Let us know.

I almost forgot don't forget to just pull the air intake cover off and you have a clear view of the engine area! Just pull up on it hard and it comes right off. Snaps right back on.

I have an '07 H3X with the chrome OEM roof rack.  Has anyone thought of mounting lights on the front bar?  I realize you wouldn't be able to move it anymore but that's not a problem as long as you can adjust the rear bar.  The bar is hollow so the wires can be run inside the bar.  Any thoughts?

problem with that is that the lights will be so far back on the roof that you'll get terrible glare from the light bouncing off the roof....plus there will be no way to adjust the lights to shine down where you want it.

Actually, I have seen this done. Unfortunately, the owner of said light bar was not willing to part with any how-to info.

From what I could see, he took a standard crossbar, and removed the latching mechanism from the base/foot. It was through
the resulting hole in the base, that he bolted it to the roof directly above the driver and passengers heads. Couldn't see
what type of fastener he used, but I would assume it was simply a longer bolt to replace the factory one. Also, it appears
he replaced the rubber filler on the TOP of the cross bar with a piece of flat stock aluminum (polished up) to give his lights
some additional footing.

He was running four "slim" 6 inch lights and the whole rig looked pretty damn stable to be held on with one bolt. The bar
in that position, appeared to be far enough forward for the light beams to clear the roof line and project out onto
the road at a proper distance. Wires looked to be run through the bar, into the base and under the A-Pillar molding down to
the engine bay.

Like I said, this bastiche was proud of his handiwork and wasn't willing to pass on any details.

So........Here are my thoughts on the project.

1. This was one of the cleanest setups I have seen.

2. It looked 100 % factory when paired with the two other cross bars in the standard location. (Much like the H2's setup)

3. Does it vibrate, cause wind noise, or hold up to a whack by a tree limb.....I don't know.

I've been looking for a busted up set of bars to experiment on, but haven't found a set yet.

I sure would like to know if anyone else has done it and what their experiences were.

GREAT input Gunner!!!  Thanks.  Now I have to find some nice rectangular chrome lights!
Any input on a website for these lights?
