My rack had the same problem, I just called hummer with the serial number that is on the key lock and they sent me a new one later that day. For free even.

Mine got to be pretty difficult to open and you had to really work them. Did you try using some graphite in the luck?

Isnt the key only for separating the rack from the sliding mount its on? Who does that? You can add it and remove it from the vehicle without the keys right?

Not on the H3 you need the key in order to move the rack. You really lock down the cover that goes over the the roof rack assembly.

Well on several of my h2's I have never used the key to remove or put on the roof racks, the key only separates the actual rack from the holders, I believe.

Hello Friends, The key in H2 racks is for removing the end cap only. Upon removing the end cap, and sliding out the vinyl cover strips you can then slide into the rack any exclusive H2 rack accessory ie: OFF ROAD LIGHTS, ROOF CARGO CAGE RACK, SKI HOLDERS, SURF BOARD HOLDERS, BICYCLE HOLDERS etc. I also did not have the key for my end caps but I was able to remove the end caps with absolute no difficulty. I pryed out the vinyl cover strip from the rack and with some manuvering with a long thin flat end screwdriver on the inside portion of the end cap, I reached in and I was able to pry the closing cam just enough to clear the small bump and slide out the end cap with absolutly no problems. And to return the end cap, I just slide the end cap back into place and gave it a good push back into its locked position...no problem and absolutly no damage was incurred.

But keys would be easier. My 3 doesn't have the racks. My H2 did and the key was just to remove the end caps. I only took them off to put on my two storage pods when I went to the mountains. Safari your method might work with nothing on the roof but with the two storage bins up there you wouldn't be able to get into a position to do what you did. The dealer should be able to get you the correct keys OFFBT.
