Hey There,
I just bought a 1992 4 door hard top with 6.2 deisel, no CTIS and no A/C. According to the VIN it was it is for sure one of the first 1992's. I dont have nay pics yet, I just installed the AMG heavy duty wrap around front grill guard, bad ass !!!!
I just noticed that when the breaks are applied very heavy the H1 shakes and rattles very bad, is this normal, I did not seem to remember this on my test drive but i may have been pussy footing it since it wasnt my toy yet on the test drive, i just had a mechanic I work with change the input shaft seals and put new pads on the rear brakes, rotors are fine and are not warped
Any IDeas ??? I am so exicted to take my rig out and test it but this vibration has me worried, any help would be great
Thanks
Dan

If memory serve, the '92's were just a repainted military truck, right? If so, that is normal. All of the ones I drove while on active duty in the Marine Corps shook rattled and sounded like they were going to fall apart at any moment, even the new ones. They wouldn't stop dancing until you set the parking brake and walked away.

The first H 1’s were pretty crude machines. They were built strictly for off road use and not particularly for ride and comfort. Function before form was the key there. If you are really concerned take it to a reputable Hummer Dealer and have them fine tooth comb it.
Nevertheless WELCOME to the nut house and good luck with your new rig.
OH and since no body else has done this I shall be the first...

I was lucky enough to drive a late 90's fully loaded H1 wagon for a little over a month as part of a manufacturer swap and noticed no brake issues at all. Trust me, I really put it to the test so I believe that you may only need a brake job.

I have the same problem whenever I replace the brakes or need to replace the brakes... but once the brakes are worn in this problem goes away.

boy am i glad and pissed all at the same time, the guy that changed by input and out shaft seals and pinion seals had some monkey helping him I think, this guy put my front pads on with out the anti-rattle clips, every time the breaks were applied it stopped great but would shake and rattle like the devil unitl it finally stopped, this was due the pads bouncing around like Pamela Lee

against the rotors, I got the parts at a CarQuest part # H5276, for any of you with this issue I think this is the fix, I have heard it is an after market GM part and not an OEM AMG part, anywho, they go on this weekend and should cure my issued,
cheap fix but frustrating to figure out !!!! thanks for the help pick to come soon !!!

Are you sure your rattling and shaking is coming from the front brakes? Since you just installed new rear brake pads, it sounds like this could be the "new brake pads aren't chamfered issue"... see the recent thread here:
http://www.hummerforums.com/m_24567/tm.htm Basically, the edges of the brake pads need to be bevelled a little bit (you can do this with a file if you want to do it yourself), otherwise they will groan and make the truck shake until they get broken in.
There are no anti-rattle clips on the OEM brake pads for a Hummer; regarding those pads from CarQuest with the clips, let us know how those work out for you. The OEM brake pads ride between the piston and the caliper without any clips, but they shouldn't be shaking and rattling around if you have the correct pads.
