Hello members,

I am new to the Hummer arena and have been weighing the pros and cons (what I can find) of the 2006 Hummer versus the pros and cons of the 2006 Jeep Cherokee. I have been a diehard MOPAR owner for the past 25 years and this is the first time I have looked at anything other than a Mopar. I really like the Hummer alot but on the surface it has a few shortfalls. The Jeep is very nice also and it has it shortfalls as well. I would like to know why you think a Hummer H3 is the better vehicle. Please cover as many aspects as you can, you just may convert this Mopar nut into a Hummer fan. (wife likes both but leans a bit towards the jeep due to it's gizmos/HEMI and somewhat better creature comfort)

Thanks

P.S. I am not too worried about praticality since my daily driver is an SRT-10 Ram

Go to a Hummer dealer with a test track, and let them show you what it REALLY can do!

It depends where you gonna be using it, offroad, onroad, daily driver, mall cruising...etc. If offroad - get the H3, other than that go with the Jeep. More power and they look better with 22's or 24's chrome wheels.

I just traded in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and got a real nice H3. I have had Jeeps for the past 20 years and I'm a diehard Mopar guy. My waife and I both drove Jeeps for years. In fact when the sales guy told me the hooks on the front of the Hummer was "Jeep Retievel Hooks" I almost hit him!
I've always wanted a Hummer though. I took an H3 for a ride one weekend and fell in love. It road better than my Jeep. It didn't have the power of my Jeep, but just the ride and the feeling you have a Hummer is more than enough to make me forget about the Jeep. You won't be sorry you got a Hummer.
Just my humble opinion....

Go with the H3, the GC is no match, only the Rubicon is. Jeep messed up when they stopped producing the XJ (cherokee) and went with the ugly, girlyfied Liberty

I always liked my wifes old 94 JGC. But the simple fact is, jeep isn't offering any GC with a 4:1 t case, and rear locker & 33's. That, and the fact that my wife liked the looks of the H3, are why we bought ours. I didn't want to spend too much to get the next vehicle "capable". We use the wifes rides (all have been 4wd) for light duty trails at the river & lakes etc. So, getting something that came stock with some good capabilities was a plus. I really like the approach/dept. angles, since our old tahoe sat too low, and I was always afraid I was going to drag the body in some of the rougher stuff. Since I have a dedicated trail rig, and a lifted truck that's my DD, there isn't really a need, or want, to spend a lot of extra on the wifes ride to get it capable for the lighter stuff it will see.

Now, more than likely the GC would have still met our needs there, but the fact that the H3 offered more "out of the box" just made us go there.

I got to know all the mechanics at my Jeep dealership when I had my Grand Cherokee. I was lucky to have an extended warranty but was amazed at all the things that broke, or leaked (transfer case fixed 3 times and still
leaked, both differentials leaked after several fixes). water pump at 35k, cracked exhaust manifold 2 times, radiator leaked, computer gliches, brake cylinder/rotor problems, power window problems, over heating tranny, I am only stopping now because i am getting worked up.
I just hope the H3 is reliable.

I guess I’ll just echo what others have said and add that we just traded in our ’02 GC Laredo for our H3 three weeks ago. And although the GC had more bells & whistles and creature comforts, the H3 is sportier and more fun to drive.

I think that is pretty much our stance as well. Like with our Tahoe, we never had a moments trouble with it. We just like the H3 for the fun factor etc. I like that it doesn't look like all the mainstream vehicles do these days. Too many look like modern station wagons that sit up a bit more than a car. I like the more squared off "utility" look of the H3... and the adventure pkg. was a plus to me.

The H3 adventure combo luxury package offers many 'creature comforts'......have you looked at the different packages and options?

I still have my 97 JGC and love it. I have a 4" lift and 33's, rear locker and beat the hell out of it and she still runs like a champ. I've got the 4.0 straight 6 and once while going deer hunting I kinda slid off the trail and my oil pan landed on a rock. I got the truck off the rock and back on the path but suffered a big hole in the pan, I wasn't going to miss a day of hunting for it so I parked it and went on with the hunt. I put a bucket underneath to catch the oil so don't call the game warden on me 10 hours later the truck had zero oil in it and it started and drove 15 miles back to camp, we replaced the pan with one from the junkyard , filled it up and have never had a problem with it since. That lil straight 6 was one of the best motors ever made IMO.
