I don't like belts or bells. Is there a bell disable feature? If not then
I guess I could get ear plugs

Yeah, how about be safe and just wear the dang thing. Jeezz. You'd probably not even buckle up your kids, then the next thing you know it, you're all dead because of a stupid decision of not wearing the belts...... Just buckle up.

I removed the factory radio and put in a Alpine DVD touch screen. Since doing this my seatbelt bell is at least 3X louder and more annoying. I don't have any kids and would appreciate a fix.

I haven't checked on the Hummer yet, but there used to be a "relay plug" under the dash near the fuses that makes the sound for the seatbelt, door open, keys in the ignition, lights are on, etc... Just pull that out and it should stop.
And yes, my kids get a lecture about wearing thier seatbelt everytime we get in the car.

And mine still makes the noise

The gentleman wasn't asking if it was safe or not! He wanted to know if he could shut off that annoying ding and I wouldn't mind knowing either. But since you brought it up in NY it's the law
BUT I have a doctors note excusing me, for medical reasons, from wearing my seatbelt so it's not always as it seems. Everyone else wears their seatbelt when in one of my vehicles.

It's called freedom of choice. It may not be a wise choice but it's my choice! Just like wearing a motorcycle helmet! Freedom to choose! God Bless America!

I know this is the exception, but I am actually here today because I was thrown from a vehicle (66 Ford F150)
before it went upside down into a tree and burst into flames. Both the cops and the EMS folks said I would
have been a dead man had I not been ejected.......
I have no little luck with the lottery or Vegas, but I'll take that big luck any day.
Oh yeah, those belts are a pain in the @ss when you have to go through 10 cattle gates on the way
down to the shooting range or when you're loading square bales onto a trailer by yourself.
I keep a male piece of a belt I cut out of a junker in my side cubby just for that reason.
BTW: It is the LAW here in Texas as well. "Click It or Ticket" we say, "Probable Cause" the cops say.

Gunner,
Funny you should mention that. This past December 9, 2007 I rolled my 00' Ford F350 4x4 Ext. Cab Powerstroke Diesel, all 8000 lbs., while pulling my ATV on a landscape trailer. My truck was completely crushed and I was
not wearing my seatbelt. If I had been I would have been killed because the roof crushed the seats flat with the dashboard! If I were strapped in surely my neck would have been broken. As it was I ended up laying across the front seat (upside down) and was injured but not seriously and only required surgery on my left shoulder. Only now am I realizing how lucky I was that I wasn't killed. In fact that's why I bought my H3 Alpha, because my truck was totaled.
They say the same thing here in New York, "Click It or Ticket" but never stop anyone for non-compliance unless it's at a roadblock.

I would NEVER advocate NOT wearing your belt, but in this one instance,
for me it worked out well. Glad you came out of your incident relatively
unscathed. All I got was a gash on the top of my head and a banged up
shoulder. As I've gotten older...I've begin wearing my belt more and more.
Guess I didn't want to go from young and dumb to old and stupid....

OR....I could just be cheap. Those damn tickets are expensive ! ! !

I'd like to add my 3 cents....
Seat belts are a good idea. They are "meant" to keep you safer.
However....
No one has the right to tell you how to run your life. Helmet laws or seatbelt laws. It is not going to effect anyone else's life but your own. Yeah, I know... "How about your family?" Again, that is your own life. I personally think those laws are designed ONLY to make MORE money (ticket fines) for the state or towns. I guarentee if you had them put you in jail instead of a fine, the law would go away quick! It's a money maker.
Again, I don't want any of the whining Liberals out there telling me I am going to die a horable death or it will cause global warming, because I am not wearing my seat belt.
I wear my seat belt and helmet because I think it's a good idea for me. I just want the right to take it off if I feel I want to and not have someone out there hunting around to see if they can collect money from me.
I am not going to argue with any of you. Pure and simple. You want to wear your seatbelt? Then wear it. If you don't like the sound of that damn DING, then it is your truck, DISCONNECT IT! The world will not come to an end no matter what some people think.

Top 3 reasonz for not waring a belt:
#1: In Florida...riding a bicycle you gotta have a helmut...if it's a motorceeycle......no probloom!
#2: Now then I might want to become a drummer in a rock n role band...I don't thik I want to have to learn to use my feet to keep the beat.
#3: Kidz grown and smarter and more scared of death than me. I can't teech them nothin' no way.
#4: I was born to be a rebel.
#5: I'm worth more ded than alive and I'm more afraid of outliving social secuurity than dying in a head on while not wearing a belt.
AND FINALLY...
#10: I have a conditioned aversion to seat belts due to my last job for NASA as a test rockeet monkey!

As a 23 year veteran professional firefighter I can without a doubt say WEAR YOUR BELT!
Yeah, I've heard all the lame excuses, none of which I'll qualify with repeating. But I get so sick and tired of running to crashes with some idiot who thinks his head is tougher than the windshield and losing that bet. Worse yet...Your kids (grandkids) are watching your stupidity and will do as you do not as you say. Even if I knew how to disable the seatbelt gong I wouldn't tell!

Oh By the way....
Good luck on collecting a dime of insurance money in Florida if you're not buckled up in a crash. State law exempts insurance companies from paying your injury claim if you injure your idiot self in a crash.

If you can find something thin like a knife blade you can feel around inside the belt latch and push down on the latch inside much like clicking in the belt. you can then remove the blade. It will disable the light and warning until you press on the red release button. You must hit the release button first if you decide to use the belt.

Well I was going to give my opinion but after CRANK and REALJEEP I don't know
I make my kids where them until they are grown and out of my custody then they can chose for themselves. I wear mine for 2 reasons only: 1. The Army won't pay for crap, medical or life insurance if you don't and 2. I don't want to ask my kids to do something that I won't do.
Personally, I hate the damned things, I hate somebody telling me I have to wear it (I don't wear my helmet). BUT, I don't want to leave my family broke from no insurance to replace my check or broke from having to care for my Vegitable a$$. I've seen arguments for both, but lets just say that there is a reason I have never been to Vegas

1. Seatbelts are gay!
2. Crank up the radio, (lots of bass) and the dinging goes away.

I dare any of you seat belt haters to walk in the shoes of an emergency services provider and not change your song!
Like you, I didn't used to buckle up. It used to piss me off to be told what to do by the government. But then I became a fireman... Here's what I saw:
By choosing to be dumb and not buckle up you don't just affect you but everyone else on the road that may have to pay for your stupidity. Example: you're driving down the road, hit a road gator (road hazard) and it rips a hole in your tire. Your new H3 violently pulls hard to one side ripping the wheel out of your hand because you're driving and chatting on the phone. Basic physics takes over from here if you're not strapped down. You slide into the center counsel or hit the drivers door as your torso heads for the passenger seat. You're well on your way to a bad day just because you can't stay in your seat and control your vehicle.
You're sitting at a red light minding your own business when some bonehead in a Toyota FJ Cruiser rams you from behind at 45 MPH. You...
1- Are thrown against your seat belt saving your chest from the steering wheel.
2- Bend the steering wheel with your chest and end up over the dash trying to push the windshield out with your head.
3- Get stuffed under the steering wheel and try to cram your 250 Lb frame under the dash.
4- None of the above because I'm way too tough to wear a seat belt OR get injured in a crash, I'm invincable!
I've seen it over and over again and still there are some who won't listen. You can't control your truck if you're bouncing around inside like a pinball. You can't control your truck if your head is sticking through the windshield. You can't keep your truck from hitting someone else after someone hits you if you're not strapped down!
Geeze...Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.
Sorry about the rant but look at motor vehicle crashes through my eyes and see where I've been for 23 years and you might understand.
It's not just a saying...Seatbelts not only save your life but others driving around you too!

Don't you have to do that every time you restart the car? I use my belts but I'd like to keep the red icon on the dash but defeat the bell.

Forget a screw driver or blade. I found that the H3 ignition key worked perfectly. No more bell sound. The key got stuck...but pressing the red release got the key loose. So it took a couple of trys before it all worked out.
Thanks to those who helped me realize the simplicity of the problem.

Why stop at seatbelts then? Let's pass some more laws!
1.) Fat people can't buy anything but diet food until they are no longer fat.
2.)Close down every bar and nightclub in the country. After all, you can't drink and drive.
3.)If you have a history of serious medical problems in your family, you are no longer allowed to reproduce.
4.)Outlaw smoking. It takes years off your life.
Are these good enough? Do you have any to add, or can we agree this is the U.S.A and we should all have the freedom to do what we want if it doesn't harm others. To say I have to wear a seatbelt just so you don't have to pull my dead body from the wreakage is stupid. If you have a problem with it, get a new job!
