The I-5 engine is a bit noisey!  I discovered GM makes a hood blanket and the hood is already pre-drilled.  The blanket is on back-order but my friend Luke at Lindsay GM Cadillac has a way of getting back-ordered items.  It cost me an extra $10.

For a little extra sound proofing I added some Dynamat that I had.

The blanket comes with the push pin retainers.  The hole project took less than 30 minutes and one Budweiser.

The results were very pleasing.  Sound was reduced to an acceptable level.  Looks very good too.  Total cost was about $100.

The blanket looks good! I wouldn't mind getting one.

I'd like to pull back the carpet and get some dynamat up against the Firewall.  That should help with engine noise as well.

Good pics D Vader.  Is the engine side of the mat finished with like a sealed foam.?  In other word, can ya squirt it off and wipe it to get the winter road gerdoo off in the spring?

Good work too Bro.

I understand it would get rid of some of the noise, but wouldn't that make the underhood temp higher, which is something we try to avoid?

It's like a sealed fabric and should be easy to clean.  Not sure about a high pressure cleaning.  This is a OEM blanket by GM so heat shouldn't be a problem.  A lot of the upscale cars come with them standard.
