A Recall is a safety issue initiated champagne..Such as for Bad brakes, Bad SRS, engine/electrical shorts and fire related things...Stuff like that that would cause you and property damage or worse, wreck the HUMMER.

Dennis,

Yeah I understand that, the unfortunate thing is that I just went through a Head Job on my Land Rover, and to say the least it was NOT cheap...I am certain safety drives the recall, but to have to have a head job (known at that), after your warranty is up sucks...

I wish they could grandfather us all and give us the 100k mile warranty they are offering on the 07...

I agree..Grandfathering the 100K warranty would be awesome..

I guess if this problem keeps up for a while we may see a TSB on this in the near future Like Land Rover does ...God knows About Land Rover...The Little hunk of juck I had, has BIG problems with Tranny and Engine failures right about after the warrany expired...Talk about rubbish!

My H3 has the issue since it was diagnosed on Jan 10.  The dealer still has not been given any ETA on backordered replacement part and the truck is undriveable due to the issue.  It looks good, sitting in my driveway and Im enjoying my fiancee's car daily ....

call the GM number listed in one of the stuck threads up top. Demand that they pay you for down time. or get a loaner...why do you not have a loaner if the truck is undriveable and the part is on order...that smells fishy!! I would call gm direct and bitch.

Hi all,

I had the truck picked up by a flatbed and brought to the dealer on Monday since it was undriveable due to the issue.

I escalated to the 800# and requested a buyback since they cannot give me an ETA on the repair.  Case manager called from Hummer and advised no buyback - and no ETA on part but it should be "soon" since they advised I was purportedly 32 on the list to get the part and that they have 1,100 head assemblies on backorder.  Driving a 07 H3 loaner that smells like a dirty ashtray.

OK at the risk of making myself WAYYY unpopular! You want a buyback??? LOL  You don't even come close to falling under the Lemon Law. I understand your frustration, but MANY of us have had to endure this as well.  It's an UNFORTUNATE issue that has occurred, GM is fixing it, offering loaner vehicles for the duration, offering a decent extended warranty with some added perks if you know how to ask (insist) for it, which will put you better off than you would have been to begin with with the 06 warranty! Suck it up, go the distance, ask for a "NON-stinky" loaner car...no, don't ask...DEMAND a better loaner vehicle (nicely but firmly of course). But what makes you feel like you should have a buy back when countless others have endured this as well?  Maybe I just love my Hummer too much?  NAH!

Hi,

I asked for a buyback so I could replace it with an 07 that actually runs.  I love my H3 but it kind of defeats the purpose to pay $40k for a lawn jockey.  The way I figure it GM can take the mess off my hands and fix it at their leisure and sell it to someone else at a discount once its straight.

Re the Lemon Law, according to the facts of my situation, I actually could have sent a 10 day demand letter to GM (under my state lemon law) this week to repair or refund had I just left the truck at the dealer when they couldnt fix it earlier this month.  But instead of doing that I thought Id give it the benefit of the doubt and "suck it up" thinking it would be fixed in the not so distant future.  I am sorry I did since the truck quickly became undriveable and they now tell me Im 32 on the list of 1,100 backordered but cant even guestimate when Ill get the part in  So the clock is currently ticking on the lemon law timer.  In addition, there is also the potential independent cause of action under federal and state warranty laws that continues to exist (outside of the lemon law).

I hope they get this straight soon so I can enjoy my H3.  Otherwise Ill just replace it with an 07 that doesnt have this major issue.

Best regards

Number 32 of 1100?  Is this a list of people nationally that are waiting to get this problem resolved? 1100 is a pretty steep number.  That's just unacceptable.  That's not even including the people who have already had it done.  The first thing that comes to mind is WOW!

The Hummer case manager advised me that I was 32 on the list to get one and they have 1,100 of the parts backordered.  Whether there are 1,100 people on the list Im not sure.  In either case it cant be good.  It appears to be just the head thats on national backorder.  My dealer got the gasket and bolts in stock since they ordered per their statements to me.  They also apparently have 2 more H3s on the lot since I came in with the problem this month.

Are these H3's the early production 06 or is it all of the 06's?  Does it roll over to the Colorado/Canyon or is it just in the H3's?  Hope I don't have to go through it, but if I do I will.

According to H3X442 trucks with a vin number before 68287591 (last eight of vin) might be effected.

The dealership my H3 is at also said they had fixed previously several Colorado/Canyons.  I think its the same engine.

Reading all this is starting to scare me.  GM better hook me up with an extended warranty.  I may feel little better about it.  I still want to cry,  my baby needs head surgery.

The good news is that it appears once the redesigned head is installed, the problem is fixed.

But even if a person is in the VIN range, GM wont do anything unless their vehicle actually exhibits the problem?  Would be nice if they extended out the warranty for those in the known VIN range.

My H3 is still outta service -- since about ~ Jan 10, with the head/valve problem (I posted above).  I still have no ETA.

Maybe I should list my H3 up for auction - 06 Yellow H3 Lux loaded, 7,300miles and gets unlimited MPG!?!  I have a picture for the auction in mind too... lol.    Sorry but if I dont laugh, Ill cry.

LOL Larain!  Send a "mock up" to GM and tell em what a great Hummer H3 ad you think it would make! We feel your pain!

I had 2 more H3's come in with misfire codes and ordered heads for them. Larain60 let me know when you get yours in. It's bad enough I have to tell someone that there cylinder head needs to be replaced But this backorder situation makes it that much more harder to explain. Steve

How long of a wait is it for the new heads?  Is the head the only part that is defective in the engine?  Are Hummer dealers providing loaner vehicles?  Do you think this problem will become a little more widespread?

Hi all, I got a voicemail from my H3 dealer today.  They said my H3 header was replaced and ready to go.

They backordered my part on Jan 10 and Im thinking it took them 2 days of work, so maybe a little less than 1 month on backorder.

Also understand that I was told by GM case manager I was 32 on the list to receive them and they have 1,100 of the headers on backorder.  So Im not sure whether 1100 people on the list (doubtful) or thats what they anticipate having to replace (more likely) over time or within the VIN range.

In any event Im going to pick up my H3 tomorrow and Ill update you all then.

Good luck.

Count me in as one of the many head replacements.  My dealer estimates two weeks for the head delivery and two days downtime.  My head issue is the exhaust side, so I can still drive it.  Mine occurred at 26,500 miles.  Other than that issue there were only three other problems. Noisy marker lights, service 4wd light (turned out to be a chafed wire after 4x service trips) and 4 broken plastic clips holding the luggage screen.  Otherwise I really still do live the vehicle!
