Does 4500 mean 4500...
I have a 20ft boat I trailer and its probably close or right at 4500. I'm concerned that I could end up in the lake.
Do I have a buffer or do I risk breaking parts

does your trailer have brakes? if not, you'll be trying to stop twice the weight your brakes are designed for. you might want to ask your boat dealer what they think, but they may not have had experience with people towing with the H3 yet. test it out on some flat roads before you back down the boat ramp, that will give you a feel for it. but if you've got toungue compression brakes on the trailer, i'm not sure that going backwards will activate them. if nothing else, you can ford somewhere around 30" of water, so it shouldn't be too bad.

well my trailer does have surge brakes and going backwards uphill at least does activate them....I wonder if the dealer will let me test pulling my boat.

when i worked for dodge, they did allow someone who was buying a 3500 cummins diesel to hook his boat to it..its worth a shot.

the surge brakes won't help much going backwards down a boatramp though, that's where your fording depth may come in handy. it's certainly worth a try to see if the dealer will let you try instead of just telling you it will work.

or if they give you the "oh yeah, itll be fine"...get it in writing.

Dealer let me borrow one over the weekend to make sure that it was OK towing my boat.
It was slow , but no issues towing very very close to 4500lbs
