SO I am getting ready to sign on a 2007 Boulder Grey H3 tomorrow, and the dealership offered me a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty package for $2895. I declined because I am a mechanical engineer and for 3 grand I can do just about anything buying parts on my own, should they break outside of my factory warranty. I have a growing concern for the head and transfer case issues that the H3's have been victim of. I am aware that the 07 gets the 3.7 which is a change in piston bore-size over the 3.5, meaning also that it gets a new head design, or at least modified, so I am assuming the problem was fixed with the redesign.

I am taking suggestions about where and what extended warranty if any that I should be considering purchasing. Any of you experienced H3'ers willing to help out a noob?! I just got rid of my 1998 subaru outback, and am planning on signing for this H3 tomorrow(financing was approved last friday), I am way excited to join the clan!!

thanks for any input..

I tell ya what. I'll sell you a 5 year 100,000 mile warenty for $200 bucks. But really though the 07 H3 has a 4 year 50k/ 5 year 100k warrenty from the factory. I'm pretty sure the head problem was cleared up in late 06. I would be leary however of a dealer trying to screw from the get go on a warrenty. What else are they trying to pull over on ya?

I guess I should add that the 4 year 50K is a bumper to bumper. The 5 year 100K is a drivetrain warrenty. I'm almost positive it's transferable, so engine wise that truck should be good untill 2012 or 100K.

Glad to hear the sake sucker got the boot and an H3 is on the way.     There were a few early 07 I5s, the LLR 3.7L with the head valve issue as it was not limited only to the 06 L52 3.5L, the I4 LK5 and I6 LL8 also had some units with the same failure.  GM figured it out and corrected the problem.
I got no idea about ant Transfer Case problems, never heard of that one.  Are you sure you don't mean the aluminum front differential carrier???

Don't buy it they are trying to screw you, the 07s haven't had the problem, is it a newer 07 model...the one with the window switches moved more forward.  If so keep the factory warranty you'll be fine. And welcome to the club!

I would go to the website and you'll get the factory warranty information. Was it an extended warranty option?

As noted if it is the newer or 2007 1/2. You would be able to know that by checking the driver side door panel buttons, widows door locks etc... if they are moved forward and not by your elbow when you place your arm squarely on the Armrest then you have a 2007 1/2. If not it is an early 2007. Also note to see on the Website if  they are still offering the 0% intrest on the 2007's, because I got that with mine.

Can I tell by my VIN if it is a 2007.5 and past these head issues? My driver door switches are forward at my fingers when I lay my arm flat, but my sticker on the door says 06/07, not alluding to any labeled production date. I passed on the warranty and love my new toy! Already starting to get it ready for the season.

I have not heard of anyone with an 07 having head issues and the Trans-case is news to me also.  I have an 07 and it has a bunch of minor problems but nothing major.  The 100,000 mile warranty is for drive line components only and I'm sure you don't need that explained.

what sorts of problems have you run into?

This is easy.  The head issue was for the 2006 model, not 2007!!!!  All Atlas series engines built after March 31, 2006 have the hardened cylinder heads change.
That does not mean it is impossible for an 07 to have a head issue, but it would not be the same problem that has now been corrected.  There were a few earliy 07s that had a problem as I mentioned earlier, but pretty rare and not to worry about.  Mine was built Jan 07, runs like a top.  One of the best rucks I have ever had really.

I've NEVER been back to the dealership for anything.

The only problems I encountered on my 07' H3 was the lower Steering Shaft rattle and the Traction Control Module failing.  Most dealers are aware of the problems and It'll be replaced with newly designed ones.

My 07 has only had 1 issue with the driver side headlight. It had condensation in it and they replaced it. That's the only problem that I've had. And it wasn't much of a problem, the gave me another H3 to drive while they replaced the headlight.
