Yesterday I ran the truck on sand for 1 minute at full throttle, 5-6k rpm, using the 4low, the engine temperature was on red at full. Is it normal? I checked the coolant level, was ok.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

That's pretty high revs for 4Low, I usually don't exceed 3K. Sand, I believe, is better in 4H but there are others here with much more sand experience than me.

What were you doing? Hill climbs? What was the outside air temp?
let some more air out of your tires and cruise in the sand.
What is the redline on the Alpha V8 anyway?

i've never had to run in 4lo in sand and i got some pretty soft stuff just down the road from me,,, rarely even have to use 4lock.. i'm sure in 4lo your just overreving and probably digging in a lot more
even with the stock tires (which are good in sand) you shouldn't have any issues,,, i've already pulled out a couple of "jeeps" from the soft stuff

Run it in high lock. If the same thing happens, get it looked at.
Try to keep the revs down also. Beating the crap out of your engine for extended periods of time can't be all that good for it.
Oh and I believe the Alpha redlines at around 5800?

That is very high rpm's when you are in 4Lo......mine would overheat to....if I did that.....ouch

As everyone else has pretty much said, you shouldn't need anything more the 4Hi. Higher RPM's will dig more than crawling across the top of the sand IME. Alot depends on individual exp and situation.

yes, it will heat up fast if your revving that high in 4low. like the others said, 4high lock is good for sand. 4 low lock is for very slow off roading only and your rpm's should be kept low.

Max on Alpha is 6k rpm, was using on sand, didnt take the air out of the tires, I had them at 35 psi. Ill use 4hi locked now. Thanks for helping me.

Let a bunch of air out of those tires!!!! For sand use 4hi lock, turn off the StabiliTrack. Tires should be less than 20 psi, I run mine at 15 psi.
When you run with street pressure, you are working the engine much harder. Sand also saps power, power makes heat!
Get a little compressor and check it out aired down.................like night and day.
