GM XM Radio

Got a XM ready radio, 6 disc cd changer from ebay, I thought I could just take my base cd player on and replace it with the xm ready radio and subscribe and have xm radio, installation guy now telling me need to purchase a GM XM tuner module for 150, anyone know any info on this, any information can help. Thank You
