What are some ways i can get better gas miles on my H?

Clean air filter, use synthetic motor oil, and make sure your tires are fully inflated..........I have mine at 38PSI.  Take it easy starting out
from a stop cuz the 3 is heavy and you should see an improvement.  You could always slow down a tad on the eway, the brick shape doesn't help there.

The good news is that you can now buy a pretty good DVD player for the cost of one tank of gas... bad news is that a tank of gas costs as much as a good DVD player...
 
I have been feeling REALLY good these days and no longer second guess my decision to go with a FULLY loaded H3x (DVD players, the works) over standard equiped H2... Feeling good about that choice now...every week!

+1 to Doc's points. Light on the pedal and 65 MPH on the freeway does me the most good.

+2 to Doc's points. Light pedal will be your biggest MPG increase, especially in this heavy H3. And the highway MPG drops off huge with speed. I keep my tires at 36 psi, keep the air filter clean, use synthetic engine oil (haven't changed tcase yet). Roof racks and bars also decrease MPG.

Some chip on my friends dads car made him get 21 mpg on his 06' 2500 chevy duramax is that because his is a diesel? or can you do it on any car?

Gas engines and Diesel engines are totally different animals. A performance chip can transform a diesel engine into a completely different beast! You can achieve huge HP & Torque gains along with better fuel mileage with the correct tunes. Oversize tires and speed are the #1 killer in fuel consumption with any vehicle.

I usually drive 75-80 HWY and average around 13.5-14 MPG. This week I found a different route to work that is back roads, actually faster but only drive about 50-55 on it now. So far I'm at 170 miles and haven't quite hit half a tank yet.

Any thoughts or facts on installing less restrictive exhaust to improve gas mileage?

Not sure how much you would gain by doing that, and you may have to worry about state inspection and/or noise pollution(Jersey has laws for both).  Just keep anything that you don't need out of the Hummer and keep tires inflated properly.

Park it in the Driveway and LOOK AT IT!!! 

I find that if you stomp on the gas pedal at every green light and run around 70 to 80 on the HWY. The mileage seems to improve. Also the drive it like you stole it mentality seems to work well.

Other then those already suggested;
 
1) Avoid idling. (Turn it off when sitting behind a Suburban or Excrusion full of kids comming home from a little league baseball game when your sitting in the drive-thru)
 
2) Reduce weight (Pull off the wench when your not going to be out in the woods or take the bowling balls out and put em away for the summer or leave the wife and children at home)
 
3) Dont spend extra $$ putting in higher octane fuel (benefits (if any) do NOT justify the cost)
 
4) Remove any luggage, ski, bike, or any other type of cargo racks when not being used. (save weight and less wind drag)
 
5) Use a gas station membership card the rewards with point for $$off on your next purchase.
 
6) Keep the engine tuned up.
 
 
 
 

Just a general gas-milage question, if you shut off your engine when your waiting for a Lot of cars to go by, will it use more gas starting up (kinda like how shutting off the lights when you leave the room is only energy saving if your gone for more than 20 seconds...)

I bought an H3 Alpha a few months back and have been getting around 15-16mpg about half hwy half city.  I think a major factor is keeping your foot light on the gas.  I bought a Scan Gage to remind me of how much fuel I'm burning (it has a mpg gage that tells you what your mpg is at any given time).  Although.... the Alpha sounds sweet when I'm hitting it hard.

I'd guess that since manufactures are starting to do this that yes it is worth it.  The new MINIs 07+ with the BMW motor have this... except in the US.  The EPA testing wouldn't account for it so they saved the $ of the electronics by not putting it in. 
 
Other things to consider.
 
-When you go to buy new tires, go a bit shorter.
-Check the weight of the tires (and wheels if you are changing them).  Less mass is always better, Less rotating mass is even more betterer.
-Only fill your tank half way don't carry around gas you don't need.
-Park it.

Ya know what? Maybe you shouldn’t have bought the damn thing to begin with! Hummers are not exactly economical vehicles and you should have done your homework before buying it. If I wanted a economical vehicle I would have bought a Mini Cooper. I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought my H3 Alpha. I’m getting anywhere between 11 MPG & 15 MPG depending on my driving habits. Sure I’d love to get 20 MPG but it ain’t gonna happen. All Hummer owners have 3 choices when it comes to fuel mileage and they know it.
1) Live with it and enjoy their Hummer
2) Park it!
3) Get rid of it!

Doesn't hurt to do the little things that help so that you can drive your Hummer a few more miles and get more enjoyment.

I know what he meant but ……well never mind.    You guys had some very good suggestions for improving one’s fuel mileage.

By the way I got 14.9 mpg in the H3 Alpha this saturday driving 400 miles. That included about 60 miles climbing rocks and inclines and the highway miles were at an average of about 80 mph. Would have been better without the sliders, UCP, diff, axles, etc protection underneath. Not bad
