""That's why a completely new lower steering shaft has been designed and is now being produced. ""

i was put on list 2 weeks ago for the new designed part and was called today saying the part was in at dealership...when i first inquired about the noise two weeks ago they said GM was aware of it and was replacing it with a  re-designed part. i jokingly said would it take all day to replace and the service guy said it would be less than 30 mins to do it... any word out on anyone else getting contacted about their part being in now?

also my drivers side front sits 1 inch lower, iam going to ask about that when they fix the steering shaft, should i insist on a wheel alignment also or do they do it anyways? (i know kinda stupid question...lol)

keep the skids greased!

yes dude, request the alignment!  you'd think it goes w/out saying, but some dealers think otherwise.  i'm only speaking from experience b/c your alignment will definitely be off.

good luck!

I just got my hummer 3 back yesterday, They had it for 9 days before they could tell me what was wrong with it. They said it was the Intermidate steering shaft. they replace it with these  new parts. But I have to give it some time before i can tell if its fixed. I live in VA and the weather has been in the 80's. This weekend it will be back in the 90's. So i will let you know what happens. The part # is the same as Greenshirt77 said was the new part #. I'll keep you posted.

Part # 25900714 Shaft
Part # 26104070 Sensor

just got back from having my new lower shaft replaced with part# 25900714, the dealer said they were lucky to order it and actually get them in. i also got my H3 front end leveled from left to right, the drivers side was 1" lower than passengers side. i ended up getting a taller front end out of the deal. it took a few hours but they gave me a loner H3 to drive around, unfortunately it was the luxury package and i got hooked on the leather seats and permium stereo... oh well. my new hummer is feeling like  new hummer with out  the floor board/steering column banging..lol

hey cher, you were not in richmond today were you?

hello,
did you ever get conclusion on the frontend pedal rattle from Lund or Kachina... wherever you purchased the H3? I bought mine at Kachina and I want to bring it in to get repaired the same time I get the oil changed. I want to be prepared explaining the pedal bumps to where they don't look at me crazy. What's your story's ending?

Lund knows what I'm talking about and I've got the part on order. Give your dealer the TSB # and Part # that Greenshirt provided several messages back. I didn't have to worry about him knowing about the issue--I provided him the issue and resolution at once and they are taking care of it. I don't have an ETA as to when the part is coming, I just had it ordered on 8/20.

thanks alrock... I'll honk next time I see you on the streets of Scottsdale (already seen your Hummah plates once). I'll keep you updated with how Kachina handles it too.

That is in fact the new part #, so hopefully you're good to go.  Sorry to hear you were w/o the H3 for that long, but at least you got the new fix.
Still waiting for my dealer in VB to get the new shafts in.  I'm hatin' the waitin'.  I'm rattling like a voodoo witch doctor's bone necklace.

Cher- I see that you're in Dumfries.  I'm orig from MD, and back in my club touring days, I used to frequently play a club in Dumfries called Tiki Fala.  Don't know if it's still there, but it was one of the strangest clubs I ever played.  And when you club tour in rock bands, you see some pretty strange places.
If memory serves properly (which it sometimes doesn't- these were band touring days after all), we'd take the Dumfries exit off 95, right/south on Rt 1, right at the split onto main, and it was almost immediately on the left.
It was sort of half asian restaurant and half rock club.  It was the only rock club I'd been in where, when you ordered a gin and tonic, it was served with a little colored paper umbrella. Weird.
They did have some kick-ass spring rolls though!

my dealer called me today to schedule the replacement w/ the redesign, which is set up for this friday AM.  seeing as TX is always hot, i should know if its fixed as soon as i get it back.  i'll post an update as soon as i can.

let's hope this does the trick, so we all have something to look forward to.

You guys are verly lucky, my dealership in Houston, Tx  is 30 days out waiting for the so called second desing after the first design according to them failed. Yeah right !  I swear the rattle is gotten so bad now that it feels I have a Gremlin under the hood banging on an empty coke can.   I only drive my H3 when I really have to..............Only because of GM's poor handling of this situation, this may well be my last GM product.   They simply cannot handle issues in mass quantitties they way others do.   "poor to no communication at all."  We, the H3 owners had to become the researchers, the complainers and rain makers.

Has anyone experienced the rattling in the 08 or heard of any?  Not the Alpha, just the base/adv/lux?

I'm taking it in on Monday to get it done, WITH the new part, but on mine, the problem isn't as frequent, but it still there.

Ok, here goes.  I got my H3 repaired with the new part last Friday.  I have been waiting to fill the forum in on the results because I thought it might jinx it.  Anyway, I am happy to report that so far everything is fine.  No more issue.  I have not been on any long trips and the weather has been a little cooler but I think it is fixed.  I have a 4 hour round trip coming this weekend so I will report if anything comes up.

well we're 1-0 (new part works vs. crap) at this point.  hopefully, i can make us 2-0 by 5pm today.  i dropped off my ride this morning, so we'll see how it goes.

my main reason for my response is regarding the 08 loaner they gave me.  base model, not too much different...INCLUDING the f-ed up steering shaft .  consider this notice: the 08s have the same steering shaft issue (or at least the one im driving does).  not sure if its only limited to the early 08s, but its definitely there.  wish i wasnt such an expert in recognizing the noise and feel...

I just purchased a 2007 H3 last week. Mine also has a rattle in the steering column that is very annoying. I spoke to the dealership about it. Come to find out they thought it was a cuppling problem. BUT...it is a part in the steering column. It is easy to fix  but a pain in the butt to get to....it would take about 45 minutes to fix the problem. They said this is a new problem with the later 2006 and 2007 models. He said Hummer is working on the problem, but the part is back ordered big time. So, I'm in line with the rest. GOD only knows when I get it. Hope this helps!

The later 2006 and new 2007 models (H3) have a steering column problem. Hummer is aware of this. It can be fixed...I was told it may be a cuppling....can take about 45 minutes to fix.... but the parts are way on back order. GOD only knows when mine can be replaced. Hope this helps!! Sounds like SEVERAL Hummers are affected by this problem!

Good news is it looks like the fix works.  I suggest calling several dealers if there is more than one near you.  The dealership I bought my H3 told me it would be over a month to get the part.  The next day I called a dealer in another town and they told me if I got there the next morning they could get right to it.  Needless to say, I made the trip there.  Keep looking and do not just take one dealers word for it.

Humster3 ....I have to agree with preslb....My dealership here in NJJ said that the part isnt on any big back order list just that hummer was only shipping the part on a NEED TO HAVE basis.  Been told mine will be in by end of next week.  Dealer said they would have the car for the day but would probably be done earlier.....dmb7280......yea i hope with mine i can make it 3-0.......cant wait till the part is in....mine feels like it just going to fall apart sometimes......
