Mine goes in tomorrow for the repair. Service said they were aware of it and had a lot in and waiting to be serviced. Told me they will fix it but can't guarantee how long it will last at this point. It could be six months it could be over a year they just don't know. Did say GM was in process of making new part to replace them all but didn't have an E.T.A. on when that will happen.
Did anyone have any issues with getting an H3 as a loaner? They told me they couldn't guarantee me getting one they just don't have that many on the lot?

if you're talking about sewell, then no they cant guarantee an h3 loaner. ive been driving a sh!ta$$ chevy equinox for 2 weeks now. given, its for a different reason and its free, but no h3 loaner. i really wouldnt waste the time of getting the old replacement. it'll still rattle. but, good luck.

Yes it's Sewell, I ended up speaking with the Service Manager who apologized for my salesman telling me wrong.
He offered a Chev Equinox but I'll be sure to pass that one up... He said for my troubles I could pick out any car on the lot but we'll see... the only time I have good service it seems it when I go thru the Manager...

I purchased my H3 at, DeMontrond Hummer on I-45 North. Both servive advisors are well aware of the problem. In fact, if you just mention it over the phone, they would know exactly what you're reffering to. Their words to me; "we would be calling you as soon as the new re-designed part is delivered to us, or whatever means Hummer comes out with in order to take care of the problem". I had an H3 -06' w/17,800 miles, no problems at all, except some condensation in one of the head lights(the headlight was replaced at no cost to me). Now, my H3 07' model began with the ratle problem at, 700 miles. As I mentioned on my previous post, this ratle problem is terrible. Hummer has no choice but to take care of everyone who's suffering with this problem. I take it very personal, like a lower back pain, like running out of propane gas while grilling a nice steak, or maybe like not being able to buy any more beer past the seventh, at Minute Maid Park when the Astros are playing for more than five hours on an even score. Anyway, I love this forum, as well as the good folks that exhibit their best intentions to provide assistance to other H3 owners. Now, I will release every single piece of information as soon as I get it...............
Note: By now all Hummer dealerships in the US should be more than aware of this terrible ratle problem. There is nothing to hide..........The main issues are; how soon can the problem be fixed, or how long can we go on with it !

The 06's are plagued with the Head /valve issue and it is being addressed with a new redesigned head and valves plus and added warranty to cover it...the 07's have this terribly annoying steering column rattle and a fix/replacement is forthcoming...
So the point of this post...It doesn't matter who makes it or what year it is..ALL cars have problems...I'm problem free since purchase 1.5 years ago (knock wood)...I'm just glad GM isn't trying to sweep it under the rug and they are addressing the problems...To me, that speaks a lot for GM.
I just came from a Land Rover...you people have no idea what a POS they are and the customer service (not by my dealer) by LRNA sux!

Dropped it off today and low and behold I got an H3 base model but hey still an H3... yeah!
They will call tomorrow with update on how long repair will take. The loaner makes the same noise! Oh well I still love it anyway...

Hey Fellow H3'rs
Sorry I've been globe trotting for my job and have been away from the family forum.... feels great to be back, and great to be back in my H3

.
I started having this stearing shaft problem many moons ago and actually showed the dealer DeMontrond Hummer in Houston what was loose. They denied it for quite awhile, but persistance paid off and they actually believed me.... that was 3 months ago. The Service Manager, John, is a great person to work with, he does listen (like a good Family Doctor) and told me he would replace the problem shaft with a new (same design) shaft. But as we all know, it will rattle in time. He said the new design is months away and if it was him he would wait. So, no big deal, I will wait. He will let me know when it comes in. If you are in Houston Texas and want a good dealer to service your H3.... I would highly suggest that you go visit John and the team at DeMontrond on I-45 North. Even when I get my oil service done they give me an H3 loaner. Cool bunch of folks!

Got mine back today and she just purrs... No rattle noise yeah.. Hubby already found the next new vehicle purchase. An H2 in that dark blue color but ickkk he likes the chrome brushguard.. the other one we looked at was black with these really cool steps that were black and said Hummer... We'll settle on the color in three years... LOL

Jenn..trust me on this one..
Owning a BIG BLACK H2 is the coolest thing next to Hummbob's
But I know Texas..it's just like Oklahoma...DUSTY!. to clean a rig of that size and then in two hours have a coat of dust all over it...well, consider something in the lighter shades please, like Pewter...trust me, you won't regret it.

Dennis, Ok I had to go check out the Pewter color on the Hummer site, I like that especially up against the tinted windows.
Hubby says he likes Slate Blue, this one will be his so he gets to choose color. He agreed though he DOES NOT want Black (it looks awesome only if someone else's) one too hot here in Texas and like you said too darn hard to keep it clean.

WHAT A HORRIBLE NOISE!
We went off-roading this weekend and I started getting it too, the BAD one, not the mild looseness I had before. It only seems to happen when I'm turning. It sounds like somethings just popping out and smacking your chasis. Mike is checking today to see if they have a part for it yet. It's happened to me about 3 or 4 times since Sunday afternoon. Every time it happens I think I ran over something or my CV joint popped. I feel bad for you guys that have this problem right off the lot. I definitely would feel anxiety over keeping the truck as well. Believe me, this is not normal.

Not only that, it's more how it feels on your right foot. To me it feels more like stepping on or crushing an empty Coke aluminum can with your bad foot. Now, the deal is to wait for GM to come up with a solution, and then to be on a waiting list to have it repaired. In the mean time more new H3's are still being sold every day. All cars have problems (new/old), but this particular rattle problem really challenges my character. The waiting lines of H3 owners with this rattle problem are going to be just as long as the waiting lines of those who wanted to purchase the
iphone the first day of sale a few weeks ago

. I still LOVE my H3

...I'm just venting-out

...............

You vent my friend. I completely forgot about that feeling with the pedal! When it happened while I was braking, it felt like for a split second my brakes just gave out and you are right, it almost does feel like you are crusing a can under your foot. VERY good analogy my friend

I really don't want to be perceived as being dramatic but, like the Hummer slogan "Like Nothing Else," the rattle feeling on your right foot, feels just like that.

Thank you HummerGuy for hearing me out. I do care about H3's. I already had two H3's in less than two years, and I have also done a lots of small things to them as well. Perhaps, this Forum have thought me many good things. I hope that some day I would earn the respect from all of you.

I talked to my dealer (Lund in Phx) and sent them this forum thread. He said there is a bulletin out for this and that there is a special part to order and none were in stock in Phoenix. He's ordered that part and I'll be bringing it in when the part arrives.
Sorry about the lack of detail but we communicated through voicemail and email. I'll let everyone know what solution they had and what the results are once it happens. I just wanted to let everyone know that there may be a solution right around the corner.

Count me in on this noise also. I have under 600 miles on mine and it bugs the crap out of me. Plus I live in Palm Desert where 110 degree temps are normal . I came from Mercedes ML so I assumed things would feel a little cheaper in a GM car but this rediculous. I'm glad it's not normal. I will watch this thread and wait until the updated part is available before I bring it in.

I sure wish "Duck tape" (any color) could fix the rattle problem...........I'm reaching the saturation point of me being cool about it

Just bought my '07 H3 Lux on June 30th, already have noticed the problem with less than 500 miles on it. Thank God for this forum, I thought I was crazy imagining it until I saw this post. You guys are great! Sounds like there's quite a few folks on here that bought from Sewell Hummer, guess I'll get in line on the waiting list for the new and improved part.

Hi JC. Welcome to our forum. Yes, there are quite a few members that purchased their Hummer from your dealer.
And, just so you know..........

Mine is doing the same thing. I have an appointment on Saturday morning to have mine checked out.
How can you tell the manufacture date? And what production dates are having the problems?

You can find the manufacture date on the manufacturer's sticker on the driver's side door jamb. As far as I've heard, it's been all 07 H3s. There was a slight model change this spring where they moved the window switches further up the door, along with a few other changes, but I doubt they changed the steering. They did announce a big change to the steering for the 08 H3 lineup.
My dealer got the part in today; I have an appointment for August 1 since that's the earliest I can get in.

I just talked to the service advisor at Sewell in Plano and he said they are starting to get the new replacement parts in. I got on the list, he said probably about a week until they get to me.

I took my h3 in for the rattle also.....at first they could not find the problem.....I had to go there myself and take the service manager for a ride......It finally made the noise. They called me yesturday and said it is a bad drive train and it needs to be replaced.....funny thing is, if they know about it, why would they say at first that they did not know what the problem was?......that pissis me off more...........just like my old truck, toyota tundra, there was an issue with the brakes system, and they tried to charge me. Lucky i found a forum like this and it talked about a recall for the brake system.....printed it out and took it to the dealer...........hes like umm.....this is the first i heard of this.........dumb a$$e$

I moved my appointment up from Aug 1 to yesterday.
I think I got the “early” fix for the clunking in the H3, mostly because 40 minutes after I left the dealer on a 100 degree day the clunking had returned, albeit a bit lighter. They left a copy of the service document in the truck for me so I’m retyping it below. I did not get a chance to talk to my service guy. And there's a reference to an updated part number becoming available so I guess I'll be going back in sometime. I'm taking my H3 offroad a bit today so if that issue is there I'll know after some building up lots of heat offroading in the desert.

2007 Hummer H3
Subject: Clunk or knock heard and felt through the steering wheel or brake and accelerator pedals – keywords intermediate rattle shaft #PIT4448 – (06/27/2007)
Models: 2007 Hummer H3
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern A clunk or knock noise is heard and felt through the steering wheel or brake and accelerator pedals, the cause is a slip/stick condition in the lower steering shaft. This is a temperature sensitive issue and usually requires the vehicle to have been driven for a period of time to increase under hood temperatures.
Recommendation/Instructions Replace the lower steering shaft part no. 25776339. There is a high probability that replacing the shaft will correct the condition as there are only a small percentage of parts that exhibit this condition. This PI will be updated when a new part number becomes available. And then some GM mumbo-jumbo at the bottom.

Mine was mfg 1/07. I do not have any noise at all, brake pedal is fine, but........... I did notice on a few hot days in the past, when on a cement roadway, when you go over the joints you could feel a click every joint in the gas pedal. Thought I was just freekin out, started to drive with my pinky toe lifted up while on the pedel, really thought maybe I was imagining it? Didn't think too much of it until I read this thread. When GM does whatever it is that they do to deal with this I will be in on it. Pretty minor now, but only could get worse if I do nothing. I have 5575 miles and just noticed it the end of June here when we had a heat wave. Been prety cool last couple weeks so has disappeared lately. Gremlins can come and go, but seems we are on to this one.
