My dealer says the part is backordered.....
For the ones that have had theirs fixed for good, what dealer did you get them from? I'm thinking maybe I can have my dealer call another dealer and get one.....I can't drive my truck in the condition it's in.....so it's sitting in my driveway, awaiting the part.....

It may be backordered but Reeves in Tampa fixed mine in about 30 minutes. I'd call a few other dealers and see if it's really back ordered or if your dealer is just a bunch of pin heads.

We just took our 2006 H3 in for a front end and steering column "rattle". We were told parts would be in this week and there was a problem with the drivetrain and the power steering column. Will have more details this week when its fixed. All repairs are covered under normal warranty thank goodness. I see others are having same problem. Good luck with your all your repairs.

My Wife's 08' H3 does not have this problem. I hope it stays that way.

CAN ANYONE TELL WHAT THE NEW PART # IS FOR THE REDESIGN OF THE STEERING SHAFT, NOT THE TEMP FIX.
I JUST HAD MINE REPLACED WITH PART #25900714 AND IT DID NOT HELP. HOWEVER, I MIGHT NOT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS MOST OF YOU. BECAUSE MINE DOES NOT HAVE TO GET WARM TO MAKE THE NOISE AND I DO NOT FEEL IT IN THE PEDALS OR THE STEERING WHEEL. IT SOUNDS LIKE WHEN THE SHOCKS AND/OR SUSPENSION IS ABSORBING THE IMPACT FROM BUMPS THAT IT CONTINUES TO MOVE EVEN AFTER GOING OVER BUMPS.
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DRIVING A BUCKET OF NUTS AND BOLTS INSTEAD OF A $40K H3.
DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PREVIOUS INFO THAT I REQUESTED OR ANY SUGGESTIONS. I AM TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK FOR THE 3RD TIME TODAY. THE 1ST TIME THE REPLACED A LOOSE TIE ROD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE 2ND TIME THE REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT PART# 25900714. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.
ANXIOUSLY AWAITING SOME INSIGHT INTO MY ISSUE.
THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY BOOK.

I have a 2008 Hummer H3 with a little over 1700 miles on it, and it appears that I am experiencing the same issue as described above. Thankfully there are others observing and hearing the same issue. I am working with scheduling an appt next week to see if they can resolve the issue

I have a 2008 H3, born in November 2007, that I have had for 3 weeks. Rattle/thunk/thump/clunk/plunk/chunk (feel like Dr. Suess) started 2 weeks ago 100% in floor only -- now it seems to be in the accel pedal about 20% of the time, floor under/behind the brake pedal about 50% of the time and under the hummer logo on my mud mat the remaining 30%. I've tried everything myself from silicone on the lower mounts; tightening bolts for skid plates; silicone on jounce bumper; silicone on upr and lwr ctrl arm bushings; greasing torsion keys/bars; changing the lower #2 and #3 body mounts; raising and lowering my torsion bars 1 to 2 turns each way; and re-locating parking brake cable better than what the factory did. No Luck.
I have an appt tomorrow afternoon (Mon, 4/21) to have the dealer look at my 08 H3. I may tell them that I suspect the lower I-shaft and see what they come back with. I'll post what ever happens for other 08 drivers. Any other 08 drivers that have had any prob with this and got it fixed, let me know.
Thanks
BTW - went to the movies to see 88 minutes this weekend and had to put up with 20 minutes of previews on "how to be green". They kept ramming "buying a hybrid" down our throat. what good is a hybrid going to do me in michigan in January when we have an 8" snowfall or when my street floods to 20 inches deep again. -- sorry to get off topic, but it chapped my @ss to see people nod in agreement in the theater about hybrids and think that we are sinners because we like/use trucks.

Took my '08 H3 to dealership today and they looked at it for 3+ hours before deciding to give me a rental -- the tech couldn't locate the source of the rattle/clunk. Said it wasn't the steering shaft. They will continue looking tomorrow with their sound equipment to see if they can locate it. Hope they find it -- don't want to continue driving for 3 more years like this -- it will drive me nuts. I only have 700 miles on my vehicle.

Mine is in the shop right now -- no diagonsis yet -- can't find source of noise and was told my '08 is NOT the shaft. Anyone else with an '08 wanna try something (I would, but mine is in the shop) --- try greasing the hood latch where it grabs the striker on the hood.
An earlier post from G Man said that worked for him and it seems very logical since the sound could travel from the latch to the rad supt to the fender inner to the dash to the floor...etc. My sound is a scraping/thunk/clunk that can be heard when the vehicle's body twists (going over speed bumps at an angle or turning the wheel causing body roll)....I hope the hood latch is the culprit....dealer tech said they tried everything so far with the chassis.

Got a call from the Hummer Dealership sevice dept today -- they have been listening/looking for the cause of my clunk/creak since Monday -- he had some good news. He said the Tech is pretty sure he pinpointed what was causing the clunk/creak below my feet while cornering and hitting dips at low speed. They are confident that it is the driver's side rear leaf spring bushing. They are ordering a new leaf spring assembly to install. Hopefully this is it. He said they used some type of listening device to locate the source of the sound.
Just before I took my 08 H3 in for service, I had 2 other engineers at the GM Tech Center listen for anything by having me drive my hummer in a "figure 8" around them as they stood in the parking lot. Each time I hit a speed bump and flagged them that I felt the creak in the floor, they said they heard something from the rear end. Guess the sound/feeling of the leaf spring propogates up the frame rail?? I didn't believe my coworkers -- if this is the problem then I owe them one.
I just hope I am not getting prematurely excited (no jokes please) about the possible fix. I'll post if it works. The dealership also reassured me that it WAS NOT the steering shaft.

Picked up my H3 tonight after the repair and NO CLUNK so far!! I won't be 100% confident until I drive it into work and in the parking structure tomorrow, but right now I am about 95% confident that it is fixed.
They ended up replacing the driver's side leaf spring assembly, Driver's side rear shackle, and insulated the body mounts somehow. So far it is as tight as when I got it new 3 1/2 weeks ago. Let's keep fingers crossed that it holds. If everything is good after tomorrow, I'll post the detailed description from the repair order. Looks like the Tech did A LOT of work to find the problem -- really appreciate his hard work.
So far, so good!!
Bought my 07 H3x in the dead of winter. Now that the hot temps are here, it is doing the same thing. The clunking.
Two questions:
Does anyone know if Ron Carter Hummer on Gulf Freeway in Houston is knowlegeable to this situation?
Also is the GM service bulletin posted on this Forum anywhere so we can read it?
I appoligize if this has already been covered, I skimmed through this thread rather quickly. When a thread is 23 pages long, it is a ton of reading!
Bought mine at RC Hummer and hoping they are well aware of this situation so I will not have to educate them.
Thanks!

I have 9000 miles on my 07 Adventure and just noticed the noise over the last couple of weeks. This thread was great to ferret out the problem over the last year, but I do have one suggestion. Go ahead and place an update in the original post with TSB and part numbers to let people like me get to the info quickly. I am now going to notify my dealer of the problem and get things rolling for a fix.
For the record, I absolutely LOVE my H3 and the fellowship of this forum. Thanks everyone.

GM had the same problem on the HD pick-ups a few years ago. MY crew cab 2500HD clunked bad and you could feel it in the wheel. First repair was just to grease the intermediate shaft but this was only a temporary fix. Second attempt was to replace the intermediate shaft. Again, temporary. Third trip to the stealer got a redesigned shaft that was good for at least the next 75K miles. This was on an 04' and I knew of people who had the problem on 02's. You would think GM would have this taken care of by 07'. I work for GM though so I guess I shouldn't be suprised.

Got my rattle fixed this week. Good as new so far. While it was there I showed them how the driver side front sat lower than the passenger side, and that both should probably come up a bit more anyway.
So they grinned back and told me that they would crank the bars if I would pay for the alignment. Now she is fixed and leveled. A bit firmer, so I may go Cognitos pretty soon.

Hi Guyz,
I own a 2008 H3, purchased it in March.....have the same damn problem. Got this confirmed from the local Dubai dealership - they would be changing this steering shaft during the first service [10,000kms], said would take 3 days & is still a problem GM / Hummer is regularly facing.... they said its safe to drive though....so there u have it....seems to b another legacy in the making!
Any idea on a good amplifier to go with the 6-CD Monsoon changer??
Ciao

The June 2008 issue of Four Wheeler has an article on this. It states that you can pull the upper shaft off and cycle it to move the grease around or buy an aftermarket steering shaft from Borgenson Universal. It will get rid of the loose OEM shaft. It is beefier and has a lot less play.
