Been a while since I checked in here... thought I might post a follow up on my service.

DISCLAIMER:   I flipped thru the 19 pages of posts pretty quick, so if I missed something, my apologies.

I had the shaft replaced back in early August, to no avail.   In fact, the issue is worse than before.   Service dealer basically gave me the "one per customer" line until the new part comes out.    Don at McGinnis confirmed that the factory part number has changed, and that a newly engineered part isn't available at this time.  He did confirm that I'm still on the list, and verified my name.  Don is a nice guy to deal with, btw.

So, for now, I continue to drive my klunky H3 either really slow in the mud or above 55mph on the freeway.   Anywhere in-between and it feels like it is about to fall apart.

Good luck,
Manford

Don may be a nice guy, but that doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about 100% of the time.  It seems to me that McGinnis has popped up on several occasions in regards to misinformation.  Even earlier in this thread I believe, as I remember commenting on them before.

The new redesigned lower steering shaft has been available for the last month and a half or so.  Fixes with the new shaft began in mid-late Aug I believe.  Mine was performed exactly 4 weeks ago.

greenshirt77 is absolutely correct.  By now the replacement drive shaft issue is an old story.  It's been more than a month since my H3 was serviced for this particular problem, and it's now running just like when  I first purchased it.  You should have McGinnis folks make contact with the DeMontrond Hummer dealer in Houston.  By now, and this late in the game no Hummer dealer should be playing the "I know more than you game."  Be nice to them, but tuff and let them know that you need to get your rig fix yesterday.

My bad, most of your comments were on page 18.   Looks like I flipped thru that page a little to fast.

Calling DeMontrond tomorrow to get their sitrep.

Thanks,

The work performed on my 2007 - H3 was described as follow:   Steering/Suspension -Tapping at pedal, Lower Intermidiate Shaft is noisy.  Lower Intermidiate Shaft replaced.  Part Number:  25776339.  Description: Shaft 6.524.   So far doing great, and I even received a customer satisfaction follow thru call.   Call and ask for an appointment.   They will understand the problem.  Please, keep us posted !  GO GET THEM !

p.s. I love my H3 now, just as much as I as I did when I first drove it off the lot.

Glad to hear your issue is solved!

I phoned DeMontrond, got voice mail, will try again later.

I talked Beck and Masten, and they confirmed that a new part is available, but on back order.   I'm going to phone Don at McGinnis again and see what he has to say about all this.  That dealer is close to my place of work, so if I can get it fixed there, great.  If not, I'll gladly use another dealer, I really don't feel any loyalty to any of them at this point.

H3PR, the question I have for you is the part number that you listed above is different from the #25900714 others have listed.   Which one is correct?

Thanks,
Manford

I'm not 100% sure on this, so don't quote me.  Several people mentioned that originally, even though the lower shaft was a redesign, GM was still using the same part # as the old shaft.  Possibly this is the # that H3PR posted, and was being used before the new part # was assigned.  I'm really not sure though.

What I am sure of, is that the part # on my invoice (from 4 wks ago)  is 25900714, and that currently seems to be the # that is being used, as others that have had the fix very recently have this # on their invoices.

In what I've read in the previous posts, the old shaft has a white marking and the new shaft has a yellow marking.

Mine is a 2007 and I just noticed right off the showroom floor ( H3 1 week old now) that i have this 'bumpy" tire feel at 70-100 kph (45-60 mph) and then it smoothes out (no pedal stuff). Tires looked good and air looks good.   Puzzled...may take in for a balance check but mine is a little different but weird, can't explain it. ???

Mine seems to do this upon start up? Is this the same thing?

don't mean to jump in but i just put my 07-H3 in yesterday because of a noise that sound like a rock in the tire but i went thru and removed all rocks and still made the same noise . dealer told me that it coult be the shaft but did not say what shaft.

Got mine back yesterday and the Intermediate steering column fix works.  No issue at all with the dealer, my service advisor knew exactly waht I was talking about and had done several vehicles including 2008's like mine. It just took a day for them to get the part - no biggie - they gave me a Caddillac DTS to use while it was waiting.

I thought I would update on my 07 H3 steering shaft fix I had a month or so ago. I had to wait for some hot day's to make sure it was fixed. After a few 95 degree day's here in the Los Angeles area and 100 degrees today. It absolutley ran without any problems. Running good even in all the smoke and ash in the air across the Los Angeles basin. I would like to give my thanks to Hummer and my dealer for taking care of this issue.

I've had mine in the shop for the past 4 Sarurday's in a row - 1st they idendified the prob as the intermediate steering shaft; then they replaced it; then they identified the upper steering shaft "U joint" as being "worn" (13k miles on the vehicle); now they have replaced the upper steering column as well.  Results:  there is still a little play and a knocking sound when I move the wheel to the right.  I'm very frustrated.

(That 4door Rubicon looks nice with a lift and 35"s.......sorry, my mind was just wandering for a moment)

My 07 H3 Tactical was manufactured in 06/07. I have noticed the same problem and have NEVER been off of the pavement yet. My wife's is an 08 and have never noticed it in hers. It is VERY sparatic, however annoying. Hope this helps, it helped me. At least I know what to tell them to look for. Thanks

I just bought my H3 yesterday, and I could swear I noticed the little thumping in the gas pedal when I was almost home......
I have about 222 miles on the odometer......geez, now I will have to have it fixed......I'll call the dealership next week and see if I can talk them into just fixing it, even if it doesn't do it for them.....they usually won't foul around with me, and they know that I know what I'm talking about......for a girl that is!

Well I had my shaft replaced with the part #25900714, and once I left it was still there and a little worse than before.....WTH????

I wonder if it's a white dot one or a yellow dot one......

I'm calling my Hummer dealer that is 2 hours away...and see what they say......any other ideas????

BTW, mine is an 08 Lux model

I have a 08 H3 right hand drive which has done 900 km and I am getting this exact same condition...very unnerving it feels like the pedals and steering column are going to fall apart.

Have spoken to local dealer and they are unaware of the problem-Hummer was only released in Australia about 3-4 months ago

eors, dont worry.  its a super easy fix as long as you tell them that its the steering shaft.  if they try to trouble shoot, it'll take them 3 tries to get it right.  now that there's a tsb, it should be pretty easy tho.  and dont worry about the vehicle either.  nothing bad will happen.  i took a 1300 mile road (round) trip w/ the same problem as well as numerous off-roading excursions and never had any issues besides the annoying noise.
