well, you are getting up there in age, so you probably can't trust your memory all that much anymore.  but even you wouldn't wash your h3 every other day.  i smell the ban stick coming out of the closet again . . .

What is a ban stick?  Why do you keep it in the closet?  Why do people sniff the stick?  Does it smell good or bad?  P.S. Nothing wrong with washing my hummer every few days.  I keep the pollen and love bugs off it.  They eat through the paint.  peace

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and just cast my vote, and thought I'd tell my story too. My H3 has just under 35k on it and I now have the head/valve issue. I have also been told it will take a few weeks for the part, and in lieu of paying the $12/day for the 'accident coverage insurance' from the rental place, I am opting to drive it in the mean time. It seems there are several other cars waiting for parts at my dealer, too. My radio was also just replaced - the right side of its lights had all gone out. Also, about 6 months ago, I had to have it fixed - it wouldn't get out of park because some wires shorted inside the gear shifter column so it never knew I was pressing the brake. Other than all that, and the numbers scraping off the pre-set radio station keys, it feeling a bit underpowered, and it being hard to see out of, I still really like the car and am glad I took advantage of a great deal to lease one for a few years.

Welcome to the forum.  Sorry about your H3 issues.  I think many people are in the same boat and even more will be.

I bought myself a H3 for xmax.  I love it to death.  More than my girlfriend.  ooops /slap/slap.  It's so much like my Jeep.  The front windshield, steering wheel, just like a bigger more comfortable Jeep.  Tuesday put some gas in my H3 drove down the road and at a stoplight it started shaking real bad, splattering my coffee all over the console.  I thought maybe I had some bad gas.  Went back to a gas station and topped off.  My plan was yesterday to drive that tank of gas out and refill with something better.  Well I didnt get far before my engine light came on.  I pressed the Off-Star button and they told me my engine was misfiring.  Please tell me I dont have Head\Valve problem.  Im planning on driving to Chicago next week.  Could bad gas do this?  Maybe bad spark plug?  I want a locking gas cap.  Maybe some punk kids put something in my tank?  lata

Sounds like you got it.  Take it to the dealer and they should give you a loaner while the new head is being installed.

I should of made it clear.  It's a 06 had 45 miles new, now 2190.  Theres no way I did anything to the head.  I was giving it 5000 miles before I step on the gas hard.

It's a manufacturer defect.  There's really  nothing you couldv'e done to prevent it.

Do you know exactly what the defect is?

From what I understand...and I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me...but the metal that makes up the head is soft and can deform leaving a gap between the head and the valve which thereby causes a loss of compression.  If I'm wrong somebody will correct me I'm sure, but I believe that's what I was told.

You can also use the following to see if your vehicle falls into the "likely to have occur" range.  If the last 8 digits in your VIN is less than 68287591 , there is a higher probability that you may be having this issue.  Once GM acknowledged the problem, they create a new head casting midway through the year.  the '07 models come with a different displacement and therefore different heads, so we are hoping not to go through this.

I did as per my previous posts (it happened to me while ON a road trip)..but then it is my understanding that this issue effects some differently.

No why would you go and do a thing like that?  Just get the head replaced and see if you can get an extended warranty on your engine.  Even though the head on some H3s has a defect...it's still a very good vehicle.
