Alpha is basically a lux H3 with a V8. You can add... nav radio, backup camera, sunroof, adventure package to the alpha.

I have a loaded Alpha with the offroad pkg., nav, camera, sunroof, etc. Rides awesome and is quiet, smooth and handles great. There are no dedicated exhaust, intake or performance upgrades yet, although a company was advertising in the performance section for an Alpha to try a new Magnuson supercharger on so that should be out not long from now.
I have the V2 version of EFILive (logging and tuning software) that I have used to read the PCM on my Alpha with. I don't have a WB sensor installed on it yet so I haven't done any tuning. I do plan on some performnace mods as they become available such as headers, intake, exhaust, etc.
On a recent trip I logged 17.5 mpg.

I have an H3 Alpha with 7000 miles. Getting 16+ on the highway and 14+ around town. There is a mileage post on here. Do a search and you will see a lot more answers to the mpg question.

Plus the cast iron front diff and 4.10 gears (vs. 4.56 in non-alpha).

i've got 2100 miles, and have gotten at worst 11.5 MPG to best 17.65 MPG. Truck rides great, and will get up and move on the freeway. Biggest difference is the motor and cast iron front diff. Everything else can be had on the I-5.

how about the steering shaft issue? Is that a problem for the Alpha model???

The steering issue was only on the 07 models, they have corrected it since than.
