Dallas Area Off Road Trip Anyone? (BARNWELL)
HUMMER DRIVER
4/13/2008 10:27:34 AM
dunno Dave about the time. heck we're still trying to figure out where to meet. I need help guys! I've not been here much lately due to internet problems while traveling. I'm good with meeting somewhere local or just meeting at Barnwell like Dave and I did last year.
Can we get a consensus on what works from all who plan to go next weekend?
If you guys are down with this then we can meet at Town East Mall in Mesquite at 30 and 635, that's the best place I know other than Barnwell itself. I'd like to get it going sooner than later, it's a few hours out to Barnwell from Dallas. Also, bring something to eat and drink, there's no food services there and nothing close by.

well, it looks like i'm gonna have to meet you guys out there. the lady friend and i are going to camp out at the st park in daingerfield friday and saturday night. its about 45 mins north of gilmer. so, i just need to know what time you guys will meet up in dallas, then i'll add 2 hours.
also, i bought a handheld cb last week. hopefully, it'll get here in time.
btw, what's up with the crappy turnout for the dallas folks? i thought we had decent representation on this forum? the jersey guys have freakin 14 pages of responses and tons of people going to their events. to my fellow dallas-ites, its ok to get your hummer dirty. the dirt washes off. i promise!

Dave I wondered that myself. There are a lot of Texas people on the forum. Ususally the Dallas guys are pretty active wheelers. Sam just took a group to Barnwell so maybe everybody is recovering.

If you guys are thinking about meeting at Town East and don't mind driving a little further East on 30 to Rockwall, we could meet there. Town East is about 10 miles the opposite direction of Barnwell for me, and they're also doing alot of consturction on the roads around Town East right now. At exit 67A, the first exit after you pass over Ray Hubbard on 30 there's a 24hr fitness at the top of the hill that's pretty easy to spot. And then there's also a gas station in the same parking lot in case anyone needs it.
That's my suggestion anyways, but I'm down for meeting at the mall if you think it's easier to find.

Dave, I wish I could go...but you and Raymond know my status (or parts of it any way).
At least I know Barnwell isn't going anywhere.
Like I say, the quickest way out of hell is to keep walking...and brother, I'm trudging my fat ass off......

Have you contacted Jay to see if he is off/interested?
Brian will be out of town obviously. (By the way, did I tell you he sucked)

I made Raymond an offer of extraction and comm gear if necessary. You guys let me know if you need it. I just
require a bit of lead time to go pick it up from the south forty and figure out a way to get it to you or Raymond
And.....
I better see more than 3 lousy pics from this trip............Jeez

I know Steve had mentioned Shiloh Ridge awhile back as another idea. It's about the same distance from Dallas as Barnwell is, it's about 2 hours from where Dave is camping in Daingerfield, and about the same distance from Louisana if Brad is still planning on going.
We should probably meet somewhere down on 20 though if we want to go there.
Anybody have any other ideas?

Good thing we found out now....Maybe if we show up complaining about electrical problems they'll think we're with the Rover club.
I'm torn on Shilo Ridge... If everyone else is still in, I'm in.

hmm...that sounds really cool too! did anyone call to see what kind of turnout they expect?
i know nothing of shiloh either. the pics on the website were not very promising. they were pretty much all mud pits and super-mod off roading.
let's try to make a decision tonight, incase i need to cancel my daingerfield resv.

I tried calling Rock Creek but they didn't pick up.
I know what you're saying about Shiloh from their website. I found a video that makes it look a little better though.

Maybe one more thing to consider is that Shiloh is 1,000 acres and Rock Creek is only 300. Maybe it's just me but 300 acres seems a little small when Barnwell is 1,800 acres.

It's probably been 4-5 years since I've been to Shilo.
They are known for there mud pits, but every time I've gone, there've been more trails cut. There are a number of hills and gullys and you can easily occupy your day while avoiding the mud pits

Sounds good Steve.
I think I'm gonna go ahead and vote for Shiloh.
If anyone has a better suggestion or really wants to go to the new place I'll do that too.
As for a meeting place maybe somewhere around 635 and 20? I don't really know what's around there though.

What I think Gunner is trying to say... is that if for some reason we show up to Shiloh and it's been invaded by rovers too we're all invited over to his place for beers!!

It's right at a 3 hr drive for me. I can plan on leaving at 7 from Plano (I'm fine with leaving earlier too). Caywood, tell me the logical place for you to catch 20 and I'll meet you there. It's not much of a convoy, but its always nice to have someone else on the road with you. I'm planning on taking lunch with me There's not much of anything in Alto and its a little far to drive to Rusk for lunch.
Are y'all good with CBs, or do i need to bring my spare?
