Is anyone here a member of, thought about signing up, or even know what this is? On hummer.com they talk about the Red Cross and H.O.P.E (Hummer owners prepaired for emergancies). A group accross the country that responds in times of disaster. Just want to know if anybody has any experiance with this. Seems like a good cause.

Alright. I wondered if it was a situation where you just give up your truck to someone or if you actually used your own rig to get help where it's needed.

you register with the red cross and then you drive your vehicle where it is needed... if needed... I.E. Katrina disaster.

There is a pretty good article on it in this quarters Hummer Club magazine... I dunno how you would get it without being a member though.

you've also got to be HOPE certified by the hummer club - usually on one of their runs.

I'm starting to think it sounds like too much work. I'll just donate some money insted.

Anyone who is interested can go to www.hummerhope.com  Mike Morris is the national director.  There are three requirements which are not difficult to complete 1. The Hummer Club Inc membership 2. Hope trail certification 3. Red Cross certification.

It could be a lot of work but you can control that.  What Mike does is send out a request for deployment when called on by the Red Cross on a naional level.  You will also be registered with the local Red Cross group and could assist on a local level and not deploy nationally at all.  For example in weather related storms the local agency may just need assistance getting emergency personnel into an area or Doctors & Nurses to the hospital.  It is a rewarding experience and a way to give back just a little bit but you can control how much.

That sounds more like it. I also hear your the one to talk to about this so I'll give it some thought.

The only certification I have right now in as an official muff diver.

I'm a member - my problem is trying to get the Dallas Red Cross chapter to accept the program.  I'm going to try again when we deliver the 08 H2 that GM donated to them - they may have to rethink their statement "we don't really have a need for that type of program in Dallas"...

There are three requirements which are not difficult to complete 1. The Hummer Club Inc membership - as Dire Straits said, Money For Nothing 2. Hope trail certification - if you're lucky enough to live close enough to a Hummer club run, that happens to offer certification 3. Red Cross certification - one of the best things you can do for your family, and no need to be affiliated with hummer at all.

Just volunteer with your local community if you want to help those in need.

I agree w/ the HCI Membership as a requirement - but they did put the whole thing together - I'm indifferent.  Luckily, I got a free pass on the off-road certification
