The wife picked up her 2008 H3 Alpha this evening. Looks pretty sharp, I like the new Chrome wheels. We have a whopping 32 miles on it now.
We traded in her 2006 H3. That thing was a real dog.but the new V8 shines. It makes all the difference in the world. More cubic inches = good. I might even get this one in the dirt on a weekend or two.
Apparently we now have the only Alpha in the Northwest with the Off Road Suspension package (dealer had to ship it from Southern California). Kinda odd they haven't shipped any to our region yet.
Black on Black
Nav system
Sunroof
Off Road Package
Rear Camera
Trailer Hitch Package
MSRP $ 44,545
...got if for considerably less, got a good price on the trade and low rate extended financing.
Before re-buying the H3 we checked out all the vehicles in the category but the only competitor (in my mind at least) was the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Edition. In this case size matters... The H3 just looks bigger and meaner than the Jeep.
Even though it doesn't do dirt, I liked the Volvo XC-90 Limited Edition too, but it was in the next price bracket up.
We're hoping this new Humster doesn't make as many unintended trips to the shop as the '06 did.

I think what people fail to realize is that it's an SUV . It's not meant to go balls to the wall. Who cares that the I-5 does not let you pass at a blistering speed. It works just fine off road and on.

I think a lot of people lose sight of that one simple fact.

The people that are worried about the power off the line of the H3 are the same people that have all the chrome and 21's with low profiles. Off-road to them is getting the vehicle on residential side streets. They need to get a X-terror or like the guy's wife says she wants, a freaking Volvo.

No, it's ME that wanted the Volvo XC-90 Limted because it smaller and more practical for my need. The wife still likes her humster. But she also had lead foot and the onramps just sent her blood presure sky high when she couldn't for lack of power, get the damn vehicle to simply mergie with fast oncoming traffic.
The V8 solves this. For us nutty drivers we need them horsies under the hood to make the car perform adequately.
