The major change to GM's HUMMER H2 ute for the 2008 model year is a transplant. GM is putting the 6.2-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission from the Cadillac Escalade under the hood of the H2.
With the new engine comes an uprated output. The H2 now makes 393 horsepower, GM says, while it actually picks up some fuel economy over its former powerplant. Towing capacity rises from 6500 to 8000 pounds.
The H2 doesn't soldier on with a mere engine update, though. The new powerplant's size means the H2's nose is reshaped to accommodate the larger engine. Bigger slots in the grille and a silver-painted bumper are the key features of the '08.
Inside, the H2's cabin is revamped with better materials and new features. The new instrument panel is teamed with new seats, new controls, and a nearly completely reworked rear cabin with a new third-row seat, rear-seat HVAC, and a DVD entertainment system.
Side three-row curtain airbags are now incorporated into the H2, as is stability control with rollover mitigation and a revised
traction control system. The H2's optional navigation system is a carryover, as is the rearview camera. Remote start is an option on the H2.
The changes apply to both the H2 and the H2
