2007 POWER

Just got back from the dealer. GM upped the powerf to 242 hp / 242bhp for the 07 series. Just ordered a Slate Blue adventure pkg.

Awsome. Congrats. When will it be in stock?

I requested mis Sept when my sign-on bonus will be available.
Was considering the FJ Cruiser for the powertrain but this info got me going.

I have to tell you I really like the FJ, but it is just too much of a copy of a Hummer. They could have at least made the front end a little dissimilar. I'm thinking about getting one for my wife in the spring. I think any hummer is too much for her to handle, considering she is only 5'1

There's a review of the H3x in the current Autoweek. They liked the truck and they were also very positive about the power increase with the 3.7. Even though maximum torque is now at 4000 rpm, there is alao 8 more lb/ft available at the '06's 2,800 peak. Fuel economy is the same largely do to a new 125 A alternator that has less drag during normal low load operation. It looks like a true win-win!

I wonder if we could swap for that new alternator and up our MPGs

The FJ is more resemblant of the original FJ40 then of the Hummer. My girlie friend owns one and it is a nice vehicle to ride it. Toyota hit the nail on the head on somethings with it, but it lacks in some areas compared to the H3. I have yet to get her to take it offroad beyond a gravel road, so I can't compare the off road ability to a H3.
As far as any Hummer being too much for your wife or someone her size to handle, I see women her size drivng 80,000 lb semi's all the time. In fact, when I drove flat bed, I worked with a woman her size that could maneuver our double trailer setup better then any guy we had working for us at the time, including me and I'm no slouch when it comes to doubles.

I am curious how an alternator can have less drag at lower RPM unless it is not producing full voltage. The drag in an alternator is caused by resistance from a coil of wire spun inside an electromagnate. This drag fluctuates from electical draw. The bearings and brushes are a relative constant drag under all speeds.

the key is that is says it has less drag during normal low load operation. What is low load operation. Nothing on probly. When you put a load on a smaller alternator it will cause more friction in trying to keep up then putting a load on a bigger alternator obviously. I'd say in a truck the bigger alternator is the better way to go. Should be bigger engine and bigger alternator. It wouldve been a small drop in fuel anyway. I seriously doubt the alternator is making up the difference.

What did the 07 with Adventure package run you, if you don't mind saying?

Copy of the H3 .... how do you figure that ?

Drove an 06 & 07 , still dont know what to do . I'm not liking the lack of power at all , but love the truck.

Right now..If the H3 didn't exsist, I would be looking real close at the FJ..even more if they'd stop painting the roof white

Alternators are notoriously inefficient, only about 60%. Better efficiency means more work going to generating electricity, and less to heating the air.

That would mean that the stator and rotor are made better and produce electricity mor efficiently within themselves, but that wouldn't help with fuel economy, or reduced drag at lower speeds. There are relativily few moving parts in one, and most of the resistance is from the electromagnetic flux fields that the rotor passes through. The stronger they are, the more resistance.

You honestly believe a solid color would look better?

For $700-$800 you can have the dealer paint the top...

Well, I guess look-wise it looks simliar as far as the front end and the way the wheel wells look, but that's just my opinion. I would have also ended up getting a FJ if the H3 didn't come out (and would have taken it to a body shop to get the white roof painted).
