2007 H3 Intake review: Just starting.

First off I want to make perfectly clear I’m no expert nor do I claim to be. My posts here are all personal experiences and feelings lol. Now that that’s out of the way… I know from personal experience, speaking with people in person, and on the boards that a lot of the new 07 H3 owners have been looking for a replacement CAI system. Currently the only intake systems that I have seen available have been the TrueFlow and Airaid system. I ruled out the Airaid system right from the start because they do nothing for removing 75% of the air restriction between the intake and the stock air box. So I started to peruse the TrueFlow system. I did some research and reading on the boards and some have mixed feelings because of the foam air filter along with the quality of the product maybe because the name isn’t as well known as K&N, but who knows for sure. So since I’m one of the 07 owners wanting a better solution for a better performing air intake system than the stock setup, I took it upon myself to look up a reputable dealer of TrueFlow system and ordered the system today. I’m going to keep this post updated with pictures and my experiences with the system in hopes to help support a good product if it truly is a good quality product or not. I know that K&N is supposed to be doing R&D on their 07 version right now. My personal thoughts: Right off the bat I had worries about the K&N setup due to the fact that the filter is out in the open air even though they provide a piece of metal to deflect water and debris along with engine heat, but their setup is nowhere near water proof. If you’ve ever seen a picture of the underside of my hood you would know why I would be concerned. I do a lot of heavy offloading in very wet areas with lots of mud and some more mud. I like to test the water fording of the H3 over and over. I feel as though this is a huge chance for me to damage my truck without any protection for the air intake if I were using the K&N system. Then there is also the intake whine that you hear under hard acceleration. Now there are a lot of mixed feelings from what I can tell about it, personally I liked the whine a bit and it was growing on me. I would have liked it better if it wasn’t as loud under max acceleration, but none the less I was for the intake noise. Since the TrueFlow is using the stock box I expect for that whine to be very minimal if any at all. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to bash K&N at all, it’s just all I have to compare to, and again these are all my opinions.
At any rate I will be updating this post when the product arrives along with pictures. I have also inquired with the dealer about a group buy for this product should it be a good quality product. I’m dealing with a great guy so far by the name of Kirk. The website I found to have the best prices on this intake is: http://www.grimmperformance.com/shop/air-intakes/true-flow/hummer/true-flow-intake-system:-06-07-h3-hummer-3.5l.html They have them listed for $201.99 with free shipping from what I understand. I will let you guys/gals know if there is enough interest for a group buy how much of a discount we can expect.
Thanks for your interest.

I've got mine and love it - piece of cake to install, no "whine", and no "rattle" after the 1st day and it had a chance to settle in.

P.S. -- That's a good price. I think I paid $229

Good idea...I may try and do a little write-up when I get my Volant. I ordered the new model for the 3.7L and it is due in on Friday. Supposedly, they have addressed the issues that some people have mentioned with the 3.5L version.

Why cant you just use the '06 K&N? It looks like it would fix exactly the same.

The 06 and 07 have a different MAF.

I have just ordered the TrueFlow system for my 07 H3 from Grimmperformance,They are great to get along with and they had the best price
I should have waited to see if there was going to be enough interest for a group buy but I had to have it,you know how that goes.Is there any interest in a group buy on any exhaust systems by any chance?

I'm in the market for an intake and have an '07, and am currently considering the Trueflow or Volant.

Yeah...I think I'm going to do the refund and order a True Flow. $75 bucks in my pocket is never a bad thing.
07HummerH3:
Do you notice any throttle response or Mpg difference?

Hey Doc..you're about the 3rd or 4th person on this board that has had trouble with Volant CAI systems...Mostly it's been missing parts..but the wrong CAI is really the pits..

We should see how 2luke2 is making out. If you want one, 2luke2 wants one, and I want one, maybe we can find a few other '07 owners and get a better price as 2luke2 is trying to do.

I'm still waiting for mine to come in and i'll be sure to install it the same day and post here. Then if everything goes well and looks good i'll be inquiring about a group buy for everyone else that is looking to upgrade.

Doc:
I do notice a slightly crisper throttle response and acceleration, but it is dificult to judge along with MPG as I upgraded my tires to 35's within 24 hours of the CAI installation. I am getting about 13-14mpg with the CAI/ 35's/ Gibson exhaust. I think that the exhaust and CAI have countered the losses from the increased tire size and kept me somewhat at par from a fuel consumption standpoint, but acceleration is crisper. Overall I'm very pleased.
Oh, and the TrueFlow is essentially as quiet as the stock set up. Best of luck.

I got the intake in yesterday, but the truck is in the shop. I should be getting it back today or tomorrow. If I think about it when I get home I'll snap some photos of the box/packaging for all you nutz out there that like to see that stuff hehe.

Ok Truck is still in the shop. Suppose to be getting it back next week. Hopefully Monday so I can do the install.
Just another update... My truck should be done today <crosses fingers> I will then post up the install write up with pics. Sorry for such the long delay... can't believe I broke it in that good on it's first trip out hehe ;P

Just installed my trueflow cai and now have a vibration at idle and when I put it in gear and especially reverse.I thought it was the airbox lid so I removed it,it is still there, disconnected the tube and the silicone connectors from the throttle body and it is still there.I think I am going to have to put the factory parts back on to get rid of the vibrations.I hate to think that I bought a 200 dollar air filter.Has anybody else had this problem? Does anybody have any ideas that I could try?
